Influence of Extracellular Matrix on the Lipogenesis of Cultured White Fat Cells.

Collagenase digests from subcutaneous fat tissue of new born rats were cultured on different types of collagen gel containing 50% type I collagen, on fibronectin (Fn) or on laminin (Lm). On day 6, 17% of cells on a plastic substratum differentiated and had multilocular or unilocular cytoplasmic lipid droplets (CLDs). Cells on each type of collagen and on Lm had more CLDs than those on a plastic substratum. The extent of lipogenesis showed the following decreasing order: cells on Lm (80%), on type IV+I collagen (70%), on type I collagen (52%), on type III+I collagen (36%), on type II+I collagen (32%). Hybrid approximation for solutions of high-order integro-differential equations including variable delay

Abstract In this study, a numerical technique with hybrid approximation is developed for solving high-order linear integro-differential equations including variable delay under the initial conditions. These type of problems are of applications in mathematical physics, mechanics, natural sciences, electronics and computer science. Some topological properties of the Inverse Lens Mapping

Away from critical curves, lens mapping can be seen as a linear invertible transformation of the plane even for regions (cells) of relatively large size. However, close to critical curves the departures from linearity can be very strong. We discuss the topological problems induced by the mapping of regions of the image plane that include critical curves (critical cells).

Speciation of neptunium during sorption and diffusion in natural clay

In argillaceous rocks, which are considered as a potential host rock for nuclear waste repositories, sorption and diffusion processes govern the migration behaviour of actinides like neptunium. For the safety analysis of such a repository, a molecular-level understanding of the transport and retardation phenomena of radioactive contaminants in the host rock is mandatory. An updated overview of recent results on Heavy-Ion induced reactions of interest for neutrinoless double beta decay is reported in the framework of the NUMEN project. The NUMEN idea is to study heavy-ion induced Double Charge Exchange (DCE) reactions with the aim to get information on the nuclear matrix elements for neutrinoless double beta (0νββ) decay. Optimal calculation steps for the evaluation of residual stress by the incremental hole-drilling method

The integral method is a suitable calculation procedure for the determination of nonuniform residual stresses by semidestructive mechanical methods such as the hole-drilling method and the ring-core method. Quantum search of spatial regions

Can Grover's algorithm speed up search of a physical region - for example a 2-D grid of size sqrt(n) by sqrt(n)? The problem is that sqrt(n) time seems to be needed for each query, just to move amplitude across the grid. Here we show that this problem can be surmounted, refuting a claim to the contrary by Benioff. In particular, we show how to search a d-dimensional hypercube in time O(sqrt n) for d at least 3, or O((sqrt n)(log n)^(3/2)) for d=2.
