Extended complex Kalman filter for sensorless control of an induction motor

2014

Abstract This paper deals with the design of an extended complex Kalman filter (ECKF) for estimating the state of an induction motor (IM) model, and for sensorless control of systems employing this type of motor as an actuator. A complex-valued model is adopted that simultaneously allows a simpler observability analysis of the system and a more effective state estimation. The observability analysis of this model is first performed by assuming that a third order ECKF has to be designed, by neglecting the mechanical equation of the IM model, which is a valid hypothesis when the motor is operated at constant rotor speed. It is shown that this analysis is more effective and easier than the one …

Locating Objects Away from Earth Surface: Positioning Accuracy

2013

The motion of the Galileo and GPS satellite constellations is simulated in Schwarzschild space-time, whereas photons travel in Minkowski space-time. This is a good enough approach to deal with the main goal of this paper: the study of positioning accuracy in the framework of the so-called relativistic positioning. Our study is based on numerical 4D simulations. In this meeting, the contribution of J.A. Morales-Lladosa contains some basic ideas which have been important to perform our numerical calculations. For four chosen emitters (satellites) of a certain constellation, many receivers located at different distances from Earth surface and in distinct directions are considered. Thus, we ver…

Hsp10: Anatomic distribution, functions, and involvement in human disease

2013

There is growing evidence that molecular chaperones/heat shock proteins are involved in the pathogenesis of a number of human diseases, known as chaperonopathies. A better molecular understanding of the pathogenetic mechanisms is essential for addressing new strategies in diagnostics, therapeutics and clinical management of chaperonopathies, including those in which Hsp10 is involved. This chaperonin has been studied for a long time as a member of the mitochondrial protein-folding machine. However, although in normal cells Hsp10 is mainly localized in the mitochondrial matrix, it has also been found during and after stress in other subcellular compartments, such as cytosol, vesicles and sec…

Delay-dependent exponential stabilization of positive 2D switched state-delayed systems in the Roesser model

2014

This paper deals with the controller synthesis for a class of positive two-dimensional (2D) switched delay systems described by the Roesser model. This kind of systems has the property that the states take nonnegative values whenever the initial boundaries are nonnegative, some delay-dependent sufficient conditions for the exponential stability of positive 2D switched systems with state delays are given. Furthermore, the design of positive state feedback controller under which the resulting closed-loop system meets the requirements of positivity and exponential stability is presented in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An example is included to illustrate the effectiveness of the…

An overview of incremental feature extraction methods based on linear subspaces

2018

Abstract With the massive explosion of machine learning in our day-to-day life, incremental and adaptive learning has become a major topic, crucial to keep up-to-date and improve classification models and their corresponding feature extraction processes. This paper presents a categorized overview of incremental feature extraction based on linear subspace methods which aim at incorporating new information to the already acquired knowledge without accessing previous data. Specifically, this paper focuses on those linear dimensionality reduction methods with orthogonal matrix constraints based on global loss function, due to the extensive use of their batch approaches versus other linear alter…

A branch and bound algorithm for the matrix bandwidth minimization

2008

In this article, we first review previous exact approaches as well as theoretical contributions for the problem of reducing the bandwidth of a matrix. This problem consists of finding a permutation of the rows and columns of a given matrix which keeps the non-zero elements in a band that is as close as possible to the main diagonal. This NP-complete problem can also be formulated as a labeling of vertices on a graph, where edges are the non-zero elements of the corresponding symmetrical matrix. We propose a new branch and bound algorithm and new expressions for known lower bounds for this problem. Empirical results with a collection of previously reported instances indicate that the propose…

Wordnet and semidiscrete decomposition for sub-symbolic representation of words

2009

A methodology for sub-symbolic semantic encoding of words is presented. The methodology uses the standard, semantically highly-structured WordNet lexical database and the SemiDiscrete matrix Decomposition to obtain a vector representation with low memory requirements in a semantic n-space. The application of the proposed algorithm over all the WordNet words would lead to a useful tool for the sub-symbolic processing of texts.

A Semantic Collaborative Clustering Approach Based on Confusion Matrix

2019

In this paper we discuss about a new images retrieval technique based on clustering. We argue that images don’t have an intrinsic meaning, but they can receive different interpretation. These images can complicate documents retrieval. However, users need a quick and direct access to documents. To answer this requirement, we propose a retrieval approach which use a collaborative clustering technique based on Confusion matrix.

Understanding the shortcomings of commodity-based technology in input-output models: an economic-circuit approach

2004

International audience; The Make-Use Model serves as a basis for most national accounting systems as the System of National Accounts (SNA) and is acknowledged as the most suitable model for interregional analysis. Two hypotheses are traditionally made featuring either industry-based technologies (IBT) or commodity-based technologies (CBT). While industry-based technologies can be easily interpreted in terms of a demand-driven economic circuit, it will be shown that: (1) commodity-based technologies cannot be interpreted as a demand-driven economic circuit because this involves computing the inverse of a matrix (the matrix of industry output proportions), which is either impossible or genera…

On the Impossibility of Calculating the Product Technology in the Supply-Use Model

2009

The Supply-Use input-output model of the SNA and Eurostat is examined. For the product-by-product IO tables, two hypothesis are possible: "product technology", largely adopted (Eurostat A) and examined here, and "industry technology" (Eurostat B). One examines the calculability of the model. Negatives are an issue; (i) they are systematical in the inverse supply matrix: negative probabilities are impossible, Markov chains become impossible; (ii) negative flows are nonsense in symmetric matrix of coefficients or in inverse matrices. Matrices must be square what removes much of their interest. Same conclusions can be transposed to industry-by-industry IO tables under fixed-industry-sales-stru…
