Soft SUSY breaking grand unification: Leptons vs quarks on the flavor playground

2007

We systematically analyze the correlations between the various leptonic and hadronic flavor violating processes arising in SUSY Grand Unified Theories. Using the GUT-symmetric relations between the soft SUSY breaking parameters, we assess the impact of hadronic and leptonic flavor observables on the SUSY sources of flavor violation.

Physical constraints on a class of two-Higgs doublet models with FCNC at tree level

2014

We analyse the constraints and some of the phenomenological implications of a class of two Higgs doublet models where there are flavour-changing neutral currents (FCNC) at tree level but the potentially dangerous FCNC couplings are suppressed by small entries of the CKM matrix V. This class of models have the remarkable feature that, as a result of a discrete symmetry of the Lagrangian, the FCNC couplings are entirely fixed in the quark sector by V and the ratio v 2/v 1 of the vevs of the neutral Higgs. The discrete symmetry is extended to the leptonic sector, so that there are FCNC in the leptonic sector with their flavour structure fixed by the leptonic mixing matrix. We analyse a large n…

Nonperturbative renormalization and O(a) -improvement of the nonsinglet vector current with Nf=2+1 Wilson fermions and tree-level Symanzik improved g…

2019

In calculating hadronic contributions to precision observables for tests of the Standard Model in lattice QCD, the electromagnetic current plays a central role. Using a Wilson action with $\mathrm{O}(a)$ improvement in QCD with ${N}_{\mathrm{f}}$ flavors, a counterterm must be added to the vector current in order for its on-shell matrix elements to be $\mathrm{O}(a)$ improved. In addition, the local vector current, which has support on one lattice site, must be renormalized. At $\mathrm{O}(a)$, the breaking of the $\mathrm{SU}({N}_{\mathrm{f}})$ symmetry by the quark mass matrix leads to a mixing between the local currents of different quark flavors. We present a nonperturbative calculation…

A solution to the strong CP problem transforming the theta angle to the KM CP-violating phase

2010

It is shown that in the scheme with a rotating fermion mass matrix (i.e. one with a scale-dependent orientation in generation space) suggested earlier for explaining fermion mixing and mass hierarchy, the theta angle term in the QCD action of topological origin can be eliminated by chiral transformations, while giving still nonzero masses to all quarks. Instead, the effects of such transformations get transmitted by the rotation to the CKM matrix as the KM phase giving, for theta of order unity, a Jarlskog invariant typically of order 10(-5), as experimentally observed. Strong and weak CP violations appear then as just two facets of the same phenomenon.

Massive Yang-Mills model and diffractive scattering

1998

We argue that the massive Yang-Mills model of Kunimasa and Goto, Slavnov, and Cornwall, in which massive gauge vector bosons are introduced in a gauge-invariant way without resorting to the Higgs mechanism, may be useful for studying diffractive scattering of strongly interacting particles. We perform in this model explicit calculations of S-matrix elements between quark states, at tree level, one loop, and two loops, and discuss issues of renormalisability and unitarity. In particular, it is shown that the S-matrix element for quark scattering is renormalisable at one-loop order and is only logarithmically non-renormalisable at two loops. The discrepancies in the ultraviolet regime between…

Kl3Semileptonic Form Factor from (2+1)-Flavor Lattice QCD

2008

We present the first results for the ${K}_{l3}$ form factor from simulations with $2+1$ flavors of dynamical domain wall quarks. Combining our result, namely, ${f}_{+}(0)=0.964(5)$ with the latest experimental results for ${K}_{l3}$ decays leads to $|{V}_{us}|=0.2249(14)$, reducing the uncertaintity in this important parameter. For the $O({p}^{6})$ term in the chiral expansion we obtain $\ensuremath{\Delta}f=\ensuremath{-}0.013(5)$.

Modular symmetry origin of texture zeros and quark-lepton unification

2020

The even weight modular forms of level $N$ can be arranged into the common irreducible representations of the inhomogeneous finite modular group $\Gamma_N$ and the homogeneous finite modular group $\Gamma'_N$ which is the double covering of $\Gamma_N$, and the odd weight modular forms of level $N$ transform in the new representations of $\Gamma'_N$. We find that the above structure of modular forms can naturally generate texture zeros of the fermion mass matrices if we properly assign the representations and weights of the matter fields under the modular group. We perform a comprehensive analysis for the $\Gamma'_3\cong T'$ modular symmetry. The three generations of left-handed quarks are a…

Weak Mixing, CP Violation and the Standard Model

1990

These lectures summarize experimental information on weak couplings of quark flavours from weak decays and weak production of heavy flavours and the relation of the observed direct CP violation to a non-trivial phase in the quark mixing matrix. The interest in this field is twofold: on the one side, we can measure precisely the parameters of the standard model in its own framework; on the other side, any inconsistency amongst these measurements or evidence for any process forbidden in the standard model will lead beyond that model. The outline of these lectures is the following: 1. Weak Mixing of Quarks 1.1 Kobayashi-Maskawa-Matrix 1.2 Experimental Constraints on the KM Matrix 1.3 Allowed R…

Highlights of top quark cross-section measurements at ATLAS

2017

The highlights of the measurements of top quark production in proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider with the ATLAS detector are presented. The inclusive measurements of the top-pair production cross section have reached high precision and are compared to the best available theoretical calculations. The differential cross section measurements, including results using boosted top quarks, probe our understanding of top-pair production in the TeV regime. The results are compared to Monte Carlo generators implementing LO and NLO matrix elements matched with parton showers. Measurements of the single top quark production cross section are presented in the t -channel and s -channel…
