Precision Measurement of the RatioB(t→Wb)/B(t→Wq)and Extraction ofVtb

We present a measurement of the ratio of top quark branching fractions R = B(t -> Wb)/B(t -> Wq), where q can be a d, s or b quark, in the lepton+jets and dilepton ttbar final states. The measurement uses data from 5.4 fb-1 of ppbar collisions collected with the D0 detector at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. We measure R = 0.90 +/- 0.04, and we extract the CKM matrix element |Vtb| as |Vtb| = 0.95 +/- 0.02, assuming unitarity of the 3x3 CKM matrix.

Evidence forB0→ρ0ρ0Decays and Implications for the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa Angleα

We search for the decays B(0) --> rho(0)rho(0), B(0) --> rho(0)f(0)(980), and B(0) --> f(0)(980)f(0)(980) in a sample of about 384 x 10(6) Upsilon(4S) --> BB[over] decays collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II asymmetric-energy e(+)e(-) collider at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We find evidence for B(0) --> rho(0)rho(0) with 3.5 sigma significance and measure the branching fraction B = (1.07 +/- 0.33 +/- 0.19) x 10(-6) and longitudinal polarization fraction f(L) = 0.87 +/- 0.13 +/- 0.04, where the first uncertainty is statistical, and the second is systematic. One-loop corrections to four-point functions with two external massive fermions and two external massless partons

We present a complete set of one-loop matrix elements relevant for the hadroproduction of heavy quarks in next-to-leading order employing dimensional regularization to isolate ultraviolet and soft divergences. All results of the perturbative calculation are given in detail. These one-loop matrix elements can also be used as input in the determination of the corresponding next-to-leading order cross sections for heavy flavor photoproduction and in photon-photon reactions, as well as for any of the relevant crossed processes. Our results are tested against the results of other related studies in which unpolarized and longitudinally polarized processes were considered.

Kaon mixing beyond the SM from N-f=2 tmQCD and model independent constraints from the UTA

We present the first unquenched, continuum limit, lattice QCD results for the matrix elements of the operators describing neutral kaon oscillations in extensions of the Standard Model. Owing to the accuracy of our calculation on Delta S = 2 weak Hamiltonian matrix elements, we are able to provide a refined Unitarity Triangle analysis improving the bounds coming from model independent constraints on New Physics. In our non-perturbative computation we use a combination of N-f = 2 maximally twisted sea quarks and Osterwalder-Seiler valence quarks in order to achieve both O(a)-improvement and continuum-like renormalization properties for the relevant four-fermion operators. Densified low-hygroscopic form of P2O5 glass

2011

P2O5 compound is an archetypical glass-forming oxide with a record-high hygroscopicity, which makes both the study and potential industrial uses of the glass extremely difficult. We found that the quenching from the P2O5 melt under ultrahigh pressures enables obtaining densified P2O5 glasses with a residual densification up to 12% at normal conditions. These glasses have a low hygroscopicity and can exist under air conditions for several weeks. An examination of the structure of the new form of P2O5 glass reveals a significant increase in neighbors of terminal oxygen atoms in the second coordination sphere and a cardinal decrease of the volume of nanovoids in the glassy matrix. DISTATIS: The Analysis of Multiple Distance Matrices

In this paper we present a generalization of classical multidimensional scaling called DISTATIS which is a new method that can be used to compare algorithms when their outputs consist of distance matrices computed on the same set of objects. The method first evaluates the similarity between algorithms using a coefficient called the RV coefficient. From this analysis, a compromise matrix is computed which represents the best aggregate of the original matrices. In order to evaluate the differences between algorithms, the original distance matrices are then projected onto the compromise. Numerical expressions for the computation of coincidence-summing correction factors in γ-ray spectrometry with HPGe detectors

Numerical expressions to compute gamma-gamma and gamma-X(K) coincidence summing corrections were deduced by using a suitable computer program and a matrix representation of a decay scheme. For point sources only full-energy peak and total efficiencies are needed. Alternatively, values of peak-to-total ratio can be introduced. For extended sources, the same expressions can be considered with the introduction of "effective efficiencies". Examples of the use of the expressions for point sources and a particulate filter sample measured with a 60% relative efficiency HPGe detector are reported.
