Apparent magic numbers in embedded Ti-O clusters

Stable clusters constituted of four ${\mathrm{TiO}}_{2}$ entities have been evidenced in nanometer-sized spinel oxides by a combination of diffraction and x-ray-absorption experiments. Contrary to free clusters, the size of the embedded clusters is strongly determined by the constraints imposed by the surrounding matrix so that the magic number of four is in fact specific to the matrix and only then apparent.

We have performed the investigation of dot matrix holographic recording in amorphous As2S3 chalcogenide films with different thickness on Al coated glass substrates. The control over the interference minimum of reflection during the evaporation process allowed obtaining As2S3-Al system with a minimum value of initial reflection in defined spectral region. The investigation of dependence of diffraction efficiency of holographic recording on both film thickness and initial conditions of reflectivity in the system was performed. Fractional Fourier transforms, symmetrical lens systems, and their cardinal planes

We study the relation between optical lens systems that perform a fractional Fourier transform (FRFT) with the geometrical cardinal planes. We demonstrate that lens systems symmetrical with respect to the central plane provide an exact FRFT link between the input and output planes. Moreover, we show that the fractional order of the transform has real values between 0 and 2 when light propagation is produced between principal planes and antiprincipal planes, respectively. Finally, we use this new point of view to design an optical lens system that provides FRFTs with variable fractional order in the range (0,2) without moving the input and output planes.

Transfer matrix method applied to the parallel assembly of sound absorbing materials

International audience; The transfer matrix method (TMM) is used conventionally to predict the acoustic properties of laterally infinite homogeneous layers assembled in series to form a multilayer. In this work, a parallel assembly process of transfer matrices is used to model heterogeneous materials such as patchworks, acoustic mosaics, or a collection of acoustic elements in parallel. In this method, it is assumed that each parallel element can be modeled by a 2 × 2 transfer matrix, and no diffusion exists between elements. On the Reliability of Error Indication Methods for Problems with Uncertain Data

This paper is concerned with studying the effects of uncertain data in the context of error indicators, which are often used in mesh adaptive numerical methods. We consider the diffusion equation and assume that the coefficients of the diffusion matrix are known not exactly, but within some margins (intervals). Our goal is to study the relationship between the magnitude of uncertainty and reliability of different error indication methods. Our results show that even small values of uncertainty may seriously affect the performance of all error indicators.

32×32 winner-take-all matrix with single winner selection

2010

A 32 × 32 winner-take-all (WTA) matrix with single winner selection is introduced. A high-resolution gain-boosted regulated-cascode WTA circuit is used in a first competition stage. Because of the large number of competing cells the possibility of a multiple winners situation arises. A single winner is obtained by means of a digital inhibitory circuit following each WTA analogue amplifier. Simulations show that this mixed analogue-digital circuit achieves its objective with a current resolution of approximately 10 nA (0.8% of the maximum input current in the simulated case). A time response of ?s can be achieved.

Abstract Dipeptide and phosphono dipeptide hydrochlorides permeated well through a 1-decanol membrane supported in a porous polyethylene hollow fiber matrix. This transfer is easily accomplished either by passive or by carrier-facilitated (with Kryptofixes 222 or 5 present in the membrane phase) transport. The transport is stereoselective with l-l dipeptides being transported faster than their l-d isomers.
