Clinical evaluation of neodymium-iron-boron (Ne2Fe14B) rare earth magnets in the treatment of mid line diastemas

2015

Background: To evaluate the closure of midline diastema using the Neodymium-Iron-Boron magnets and to compare the treatment duration of midline diastemas with the use of magnets compared to regular orthodontic treatment. Materials and Methods: Thirty patients with age group 12 to 30 years with the midline diastema ranging from 0.5 to 3mm were selected. These patients were divided into two groups. Diastema closure in one group was accomplished by conventional method, in other group was done with Ne 2 Fe 14 B magnets. These magnets were fitted to the labial surfaces of the maxillary central incisors such a way that the opposite poles of the magnets face each other. At each appointment, study …

Spatio-temporal expression of Prospero is finely tuned to allow the correct development and function of the nervous system in Drosophila melanogaster.

2007

0012-1606 (Print) Comparative Study Journal Article Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't; Adaptive animal behaviors depend upon the precise development of the nervous system that underlies them. In Drosophila melanogaster, the pan-neural prospero gene (pros), is involved in various aspects of neurogenesis including cell cycle control, axonal outgrowth, neuronal and glial cell differentiation. As these results have been generally obtained with null pros mutants inducing embryonic lethality, the role of pros during later development remains poorly known. Using several pros-Voila (prosV) alleles, that induce multiple developmental and behavioral anomalies in the larva and in adult, we explored the…

Melanotic neuroectodermal tumour of infancy: a case report and review of the aetiopathogenic hypotheses.

2009

The case of a 2-month-old healthy infant without relevant medical history. The patient was referred due to the aggravation of a swelling occupying the left half of the anterior maxilla. This lesion became visible approximately one month ago; it involved the buccal gingiva and alveolar bone, including the deciduous tooth germs 6.1 and 6.2. The swelling had dimensions of 20 mm x 20 mm. The surgical excision was performed under general anesthesia. The tooth buds of 6.1 and 6.2 were closely related to the tumour and so were removed. The lesion was entirely enucleated. The pathology of the lesion confirmed a melanotic neuroectodermal tumour of infancy. The melanotic neuroectodermal tumour of inf…

Odontogenic tumors in children and adolescents: A 15-year retrospective study in Argentina

2007

There are few studies on bucco-maxillary lesions in children and adolescents, and reports on odontogenic tumors (OT) are scanty. Comparison among the available data is difficult due to differences in the criteria used in each study. The aim of the present work was to perform a retrospective study of OT in patients aged up to 20 years diagnosed at a center specialized in histopathologic diagnosis of oral diseases. All cases diagnosed with OT between 1990 and 2004 were retrieved from the Service archives. The 153 retrieved cases accounted for 7% of total biopsies performed during that period, and to 78.4% of tumors of the jaws. Mean age of the whole population was 12.7 years and the male to f…

Aesthetic perception of single implants placed in the anterior zone. A cross-sectional study

2016

Background: Several aesthetic indexes have been described to assess implant aesthetics. The aim of this study was to compare the aesthetic assessment made by dental professionals and students of single-tooth implants placed in the upper incisors. Material and Methods: A cross-sectional survey study using a subjective questionnaire to assess the aesthetics in 3 implant supported single-tooth cases in the anterior maxilla was performed. The interviewed subjects were divided into 4 groups: dentists with experience in implant treatment, dentists without experience in implants and 3rd and 5th year dental students. The questionnaire consisted of 2 visual analogue scales (VAS) to evaluate aestheti…

The largest bilateral gemination of permanent maxillary central incisors: report of a case

2013

Gemination is defined as an attempt to make two teeth from one enamel organ. Bilateral presentation of this phenomenon is very rare, with prevalence of 0.01% to 0.04% in the primary, and 0.05% in the permanent dentition. This paper describes a rare case of huge bilateral gemination of permanent maxillary central incisors in a nine-year-old Iranian boy with poor aesthetic. The patient did not have history of anomaly in his primary dentition and in his family either. This type of dental anomaly can cause clinical problems in the form of malocclusion, poor aesthetic, and impaction of adjacent teeth, caries, and periodontal destruction. Key words:Gemination, central incisor, bilateral.

Synchronous occurrence of two lateral periodontal cysts in the same patient. Report of a rare case and review of the literature

2020

We present a case of a patient with two lateral periodontal cysts in the maxilla and the mandible, respectively, and review the English literature on multiple lateral periodontal (LPCs) cysts and/or gingival cysts (GCs) and botryoid odontogenic cysts (BOCs). The patient was a 59 year-old female with two fluctuant swellings covered by semi-lucent mucosa on the attached gingiva between the maxillary and mandibular right canine and first premolar teeth, respectively. Periapical radiographs revealed at the respective sites between the roots of the canine and first premolar teeth areas unilocular radiolucencies. Intra-operatively, the presence of bone cavities was confirmed at both sites. The mi…

Relationship between pulp-tooth volume ratios and chronological age in different anterior teeth on CBCT

2017

Background The CBCT imaging technique exhibits proper accuracy to determine the internal anatomy of teeth. Therefore, this technique can use to estimate age by measuring the amount of decrease in the volume of the pulpal cavity of teeth. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the correlation between chronological age and pulp-to-tooth volume ratios in anterior teeth with the use of the CBCT technique and to determine a regression model to estimate human age. Material and methods In this present descriptive-analytical study, 122 subjects (46 males and 76 females), with an age range of 13-70 years, were evaluated. The MIMICS software program was used to determine the pulp-to-tooth volum…

Adenomatoid odontogenic tumor : case series of 14 with wide range of clinical presentation

2017

Background To present 14 cases of adenomatoid odontogenic tumor (AOT), highlighting their clinical, radiographic, and histologic characteristics. Material and Methods Fourteen cases of AOT were retrieved from the archives of the Oral Pathology Biopsy Service (OPBS). Clinical, radiologic, and histologic findings are described. Results Fourteen AOT cases were reviewed, of which 12 were intraosseous and two were peripheral (gingiva). The cases came from eight females and six males with an age range of 11-30. Of the 12 intraosseous cases, nine were follicular (associated with impacted teeth), while three were extra-follicular (present between teeth). Six of the 12 cases were in the maxilla, and…
