A thermodynamic analysis on the coincidence of extrema conditions in the sorption equilibrium for ternary polymer systems

1993

Flory-Huggins theory of polymer solutions has been used to express the condition of extrema values in the total sorption, as well as the inversion point in the preferential adsorption parameters for termary polymer systems. Two approaches have been followed, the first considers the binary and ternary interaction parameters independent of polymer concentration and solvent composition. In the second one, this dependence has been introduced. Our attention is focused on the volume fraction of solvent mixture dependence of the above parameters, in order to confirm or not the coincidence between the extrema values and the inversion point. Several cosolvent and cononsolvent ternary polymer systems…

Prediction of maxima and minima in the curve of total sorption parameter in ternary polymer systems. Influence of ternary interaction parameter

1993

Flory-Huggins theory modified by Pouchly has been applied to predict maxima and minima in the curve of total sorption in ternary polymer systems formed by a polymer and two liquids. In this work, different diagrams based on experimental magnitudes easily obtained such as the difference in affinities of liquids, solvents and non solvents, and the solvent molar volume ratio. Total sorption parameter has been considered to be the decisive magnitude to define extrema conditions in both cosolvent and cononsolvent ternary polymer systems. The theoretical prediction is not altered by the inclusion of ternary interactions. Different examples of ternary systems dealing with vinyl polymers and polydi…

Electronic Spectra of 2,2‘-Bithiophene and 2,2‘:5‘,2‘ ‘-Terthiophene Radical Cations:  A Theoretical Analysis

2001

Analysis of the electronic spectra of 2,2‘-bithiophene and 2,2‘:5‘,2‘ ‘-terthiophene radical cations has been performed by using multiconfigurational second-order perturbation theory (CASPT2). Atomic natural orbital (ANO) type basis sets of split valence quality, including polarization functions on all heavy atoms, have been used. In agreement with experimental data, in the energy range below the lowest optically allowed transition of the respective neutral system, theoretical results predict two main absorption bands for both cations. The 22Au and 32Au states computed at 1.94 and 2.80 eV, respectively, are related to the corresponding band maxima recorded for bithiophene cation. The 12B1 s…

Influence of time-of-day-specific same-session combined endurance and strength training on maximal and submaximal endurance parameters

2015

Endurance and strength training are often performed concurrently by both elite athletes and recreational individuals. The question of whether the order of exercises or training at certain daytimes yields to different adaptations in endurance and strength parameters, when endurance and strength training are combined into a single training session, has received limited scientific attention. Moreover, effects on cardiorespiratory and neuromuscular variables after same-session concurrent training have shown conflicting results, particularly regarding exercise sequence or time-of-day characteristics. The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of time-of-day-specific same- session…

Effects of initial performance, gross efficiency and VO_2peak characteristics on subsequent adaptations to endurance training in competitive cyclists

2018

The present study investigated the effects of initial levels of cycling performance, peak oxygen uptake (www.frontiersin.orgO2peak) and gross efficiency (GE) on the subsequent adaptations of these variables and their relationship following high-intensity training (HIT) designed to increase www.frontiersin.orgO2peak in competitive cyclists. Sixty cyclists (www.frontiersin.orgO2peak = 61 ± 6 mL kg-1 min-1) were assigned a 12-week training program consisting of twenty-four supervised high-intensity interval training sessions and ad libitum low intensity training. GE was calculated at 125, 175, and 225 W and performance was determined by mean power during a 40-min time-trial (Power40 min). In a…

Mining Maximal Frequent Patterns in Transactional Databases and Dynamic Data Streams: A Spark-based Approach

2018

Mining maximal frequent patterns (MFPs) in transactional databases (TDBs) and dynamic data streams (DDSs) is substantially important for business intelligence. MFPs, as the smallest set of patterns, help to reveal customers’ purchase rules and market basket analysis (MBA). Although, numerous studies have been carried out in this area, most of them extend the main-memory based Apriori or FP-growth algorithms. Therefore, these approaches are not only unscalable but also lack parallelism. Consequently, ever increasing big data sources requirements cannot be met. In addition, mining performance in some existing approaches degrade drastically due to the presence of null transactions. We, therefo…

Can cycling with an E-bike improve fitness? : effect of access to an Electric Assisted Bicycle on cycling distance and cardiopulmonary fitness in ina…

2016

Masteroppgave folkehelsevitenskap - Universitetet i Agder 2016 Background: The aims of the present study were to assess the effect of an eight-month intervention with access to an Electric assisted bicycle (E-bike) on (1) the amount of E-biking, (2) changes in cardiopulmonary fitness and (3) to assess whether cycled distance was associated with changes in cardiopulmonary fitness, among inactive adults. Methods: Twenty-five inactive Norwegian adults (33 – 57 years of age, 72 % women), were recruited through convenience sampling. Participants were given an E-bike for eight (N = 23) or three (N = 2) months. Socio-demographic characteristics were reported with a questionnaire. Bicycle use was m…

Addition of strength training to off-road cyclists training : A pilot study

2016

This study investigated the effects of adding a traditional strength training approach (endurance-strength = ES) during the pre-season versus a non-traditional approach where strength training is further maintained throughout the season (maximal-strength = MS), on aerobic and anaerobic parameters of off-road cyclists. Eleven off-road cyclists were divided into two groups. The ES group (n=6) performed during the first 8 weeks endurance-strength training, while the MS group (n=5) performed maximal-strength training, both together with their usual endurance training. During the following 8 weeks, only MS group maintained 1 session of strength training per week. 1RM, VO2max, Maximal aerobic pow…

Effects of exercise training on maximal oxygen uptake in heart failure : a systematic review and meta-analysis

2012

SUMMARY Aims. Low cardiorespiratory fitness is a common physical status among patients with heart failure. Several studies have examined the effects of exercise training on maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) in heart failure. Though, these studies had relatively small sample sizes and highly variable results. Therefore the aim of this study was to systemically review the effects of exercise training on VO2max in heart failure patients. Methods. Database search of randomized controlled trials was conducted from Ovid MEDLINE and Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials. Search was allocated to studies with patients with heart failure, structured exercise intervention, control group receivin…
