Scaling and mean-field-like behaviour in phase separation processes

1985

Extensive Monte Carlo calculations are used to study the still not well understood process of phase separation in binary systems. The results show that for a separation dominated by long-wavelength fluctuations a mean-field description holds in certain concentration regions. This, however, is only true for short times after the system has been brought into a non-equilibrium state. A crucial parameter is the interaction range. It determines the region and the time where the mean field description is valid. At later times the structure factor exhibits dynamical scaling. Scaling is also investigated for the metastable states. The results are applicable to polymer blends with long chains or bin…

Asymptotic normalization of mirror states and the effect of couplings

2011

Assuming that the ratio between asymptotic normalization coefficients of mirror states is model independent, charge symmetry can be used to indirectly extract astrophysically relevant proton capture reactions on proton-rich nuclei based on information on stable isotopes. The assumption has been tested for light nuclei within the microscopic cluster model. In this work we explore the Hamiltonian independence of the ratio between asymptotic normalization coefficients of mirror states when deformation and core excitation is introduced in the system. For this purpose we consider a phenomenological rotor + N model where the valence nucleon is subject to a deformed mean field and the core is allo…

Superdeformations in Relativistic and Non-Relativistic Mean Field Theories

1999

The applications of the extensions of relativistic mean field (RMF) theory to the rotating frame, such as cranked relativistic mean field (CRMF) theory and cranked relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (CRHB) theory, for the description of superdeformed bands in the $A\sim 60$, 140-150 and 190 mass regions are overviewed and compared briefly with the results obtained in non-relativistic mean field theories.

Collectivity ofPo196at low spin

2009

Absolute electromagnetic transition probabilities in $^{196}\mathrm{Po}$ have been measured using the recoil distance Doppler-shift technique. The lifetimes of the three lowest yrast states in $^{196}\mathrm{Po}$ were extracted from singles \ensuremath{\gamma}-ray spectra by using the recoil-decay tagging method. In addition, configuration mixing calculations of angular momentum projected mean-field states have been carried out for $^{196}\mathrm{Po}$. The present study sheds light on the onset of collectivity and mixing of competing structures in neutron-deficient Po nuclei.

Kerman-Onishi conditions in self-consistent tilted-axis-cranking mean-field calculations

2013

\item[Background] For cranked mean-field calculations with arbitrarily oriented rotational frequency vector $\boldsymbol{\omega}$ in the intrinsic frame, one has to employ constraints on average values of the quadrupole-moment tensor, so as to keep the nucleus in the principal-axis reference frame. Kerman and Onishi [Nucl. Phys. A {\bf 361}, 179 (1981)] have shown that the Lagrangian multipliers that correspond to the required constraints are proportional to $\boldsymbol{\omega} \times \boldsymbol{J}$, where $\boldsymbol{J}$ is the average angular momentum vector. \item[Purpose] We study the validity and consequences of the Kerman-Onishi conditions in the context of self-consistent tilted-a…

Cranked Relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov Theory: probing the gateway to superheavy nuclei

2003

The cranked relativistic Hartree+Bogoliubov theory has been applied for a systematic study of the nuclei around 254No, the heaviest elements for which detailed spectroscopic data are available. The deformation, rotational response, pairing correlations, quasi-particle and other properties of these nuclei have been studied with different parametrizations for the effective mean-field Lagrangian. Pairing correlations are taken into account by a finite range two-body force of Gogny type. While the deformation properties are well reproduced, the calculations reveal some deficiencies of the effective forces both in the particle-hole and particle-particle channels. For the first time, the quasi-pa…

Nuclear charge radii of neutron deficient titanium isotopes44Ti and45Ti

2004

Optical isotope shifts of the unstable 44,45Ti isotopes, as well as those of stable 46−50Ti, have been investigated by collinear laser spectroscopy on fast ion beams using an ion guide isotope separator with a cooler-buncher. Changes in mean square charge radii across the neutron 1f7/2 shell are deduced. The evolution of the even-N Ti nuclear radii shows a generally increasing tendency with decreasing neutron number. This behaviour is significantly different to that of the neighbouring Ca isotopes which exhibit a symmetric parabolic behaviour across the shell. The trend of the Ti nuclear radii is consistent with the predictions of the relativistic mean-field theory. The charge radius of 44T…

New states in heavy Cd isotopes and evidence for weakening of the N = 82 shell structure

2000

A chemically selective laser ion source has been used in a β-decay study of heavy Ag isotopes into even-even Cd nuclides. Gamma-spectroscopic techniques in time-resolving event-by-event and multiscaling modes have permitted the identification of the first 2+ and 4+ levels in 126Cd78, 128Cd80, and tentatively the 2+ state in 130Cd82. From a comparison of these new states in 48Cd with the E(2+) and E(4+)/E(2+) level systematics of 46Pd and 52Te isotopes and several recent model predictions, possible evidence for a weakening of the spherical N = 82 neutron-shell below double-magic 132Sn is obtained.
