Semantic-based Merging of RSS Items

Merging XML documents can be of key importance in several applications. For instance, merging the RSS news from same or different sources and providers can be beneficial for end-users in various scenarios. In this paper, we address this issue and explore the relatedness measure between RSS elements. We show here how to define and compute exclusive relations between any two elements and provide several predefined merging operators that can be extended and adapted to human needs. We also provide a set of experiments conducted to validate our approach. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.

Merging related RSS news (coming from one or different sources) is beneficial for end-users with different backgrounds (journalists, economists, etc.), particularly those accessing similar information. In this paper, we provide a practical approach to both: measure the relatedness, and identify relationships between RSS elements. Our approach is based on the concepts of semantic neighborhood and vector space model, and considers the content and structure of RSS news items. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

International audience; We present a new method for the visualization of spectral images, based on a selection of three relevant spectral channels to build a Red-Green-Blue composite. Band selection is achieved by means of information measures at the first, second and third orders. Irrelevant channels are preliminarily removed by means of a center-surround entropy comparison. Noise estimation from digital step-model signal

International audience; This paper addresses the noise estimation in the digital domain and proposes a noise estimator based on the step signal model. It is efficient for any distribution of noise because it does not rely only on the smallest amplitudes in the signal or image. The proposed approach uses polarized/directional derivatives and a nonlinear combination of these derivatives to estimate the noise distribution (e.g., Gaussian, Poisson, speckle, etc.). Camera-based measurement of relative image contrast in projection displays

International audience; This research investigated the measured contrast of projection displays based on pictures taken by un-calibrated digital cameras under typical viewing conditions. A high-end radiometer was employed as a reference to the physical response of projection luminance. Checkerboard, gray scale and color complex test images with a range of the projector's brightness and contrast settings were projected. Two local and two global contrast metrics were evaluated on the acquired pictures.
