Psychometric Properties and factor structure of the spanish version of the HC-PAIRS questionnaire

2012

Objective To develop a Spanish version of the Health Care Providers" Pain and Impairment Relationship Scale (HC-PAIRS) and to test its psychometric properties. Methods A forward and backward translation methodology was used to translate the questionnaire, which was then applied to 206 participants (174physiotherapy students and 32 family physicians). The intraclass correlation coefficient was calculated to assess testretest reliability. Internal consistency was evaluated using Cronbach"s alpha and item analysis. Construct validity was measured using Pearson correlation coefficients between HC-PAIRS and FABQ, FABQ-Phys, FABQ-Work and the responses given by participants to three clinical case…

Finnish version of the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia: Reference values in the Finnish general population and associations with leisure-time physical a…

2014

[Abstract.] Objectives: To create reference values for the general Finnish population using the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK-FIN), to study gender differences in the TSK-FIN, to assess the internal consistency of the TSK-FIN, to estimate the prevalence of high levels of kinesiophobia in Finnish men and women, and to examine the association between kinesio-phobia and leisure-time physical activity and the impact of co-morbidities on kinesiophobia. Methods: The study population comprised 455 men and 579 women. Participants completed a self-administered questionnaire about their socio-demographic factors, leisure-time physical activity, co-morbidities and kinesiophobia. Results: The mean …

Assessment of Construct Validity of the Oswestry Disability Index and the Scoliosis Research Society–30 Questionnaire (SRS-30) in Patients With Degen…

2019

Observational cohort study. To measure and compare the structural validity of the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI) and the Scoliosis Research Society-30 (SRS-30) questionnaire in an adult population with prolonged degenerative thoracolumbar disease. The ODI and the SRS-30 are commonly used patient-reported outcome instruments to assess back-specific disability and symptoms related to scoliosis. Still, these instruments have not been validated for degenerative spinal disease with different stages of deformity.Altogether, 637 consecutive adult patients with degenerative spinal pathologies were included. The patients completed the ODI (version 2.0), the 23 preoperative items of the SRS-30, a gene…

Plantar pressures determinants in mild Hallux Valgus.

2010

While podobarometric techniques have been applied to the study of pressures in Hallux Valgus (HV), little is known about its clinical and radiological determinants. So, the aim of the present study was to determine the plantar pressure pattern in participants with mild HV, comparing to a control group, and their clinical and anthropometric determinants. Biofoot/IBV(®) in-shoe system was used to evaluate 79 participants with mild HV. Computerized measurements of the 1st intermetatarsal angle (IMA) and the hallux abductus angle (HAA) were made on antero-posterior radiographs. The clinical outcome was assessed using the AOFAS score. The dependent baropodometric variables and the independent cl…

Randomized clinical trial of botulinum toxin injection for pain relief in patients with thrombosed external haemorrhoids

2008

Abstract Background Thrombosed external haemorrhoids are one of the most frequent anorectal emergencies. They are associated with swelling and intense pain. Internal sphincter hypertonicity plays a role in the aetiology of the pain. This study evaluated the efficacy and safety of an intrasphincteric injection of botulinum toxin for pain relief in patients with thrombosed external haemorrhoids. Methods Thirty patients with thrombosed external haemorrhoids who refused surgical operation were randomized into two groups. Patients received an intrasphincteric injection of either 0·6 ml saline or 0·6 ml of a solution containing 30 units botulinum toxin. Anorectal manometry was performed before tr…

Inter- and intrarater reliability of two proprioception tests using clinical applicable measurement tools in subjects with and without knee osteoarth…

2017

Abstract Background The therapeutic value of proprioceptive-based exercises in knee osteoarthritis (KOA) management warrants investigation of proprioceptive testing methods easily accessible in clinical practice. Objective To estimate inter- and intrarater reliability of the knee joint position sense (KJPS) test and knee force sense (KFS) test in subjects with and without KOA. Design Cross-sectional test-retest design. Method Two blinded raters performed independently repeated measures of the KJPS and KFS test, using an analogue inclinometer and handheld dynamometer, respectively, in eight KOA patients (12 symptomatic knees) and 26 healthy controls (52 asymptomatic knees). Intraclass correl…

Performance of the compensation comparison method for retinal straylight measurement: effect of patient's age on repeatability

2008

Aim: The assessment of repeatability and reproducibility of retinal straylight measurements with the C-Quant straylight meter (Oculus AG, Germany) and the effect of patient’s age on the instrument performance are tested with a series of experiments. Methods: First, 20 eyes from 20 subjects (mean age 26.9 (SD 2.7) years, mean refractive error −1.34 (2.72) D) were examined with the C-Quant straylightmeter, taking 10 consecutive readings. Five subjects were also examined on five consecutive days to assess reproducibility. Additionally, repeated measures of straylight from 84 subjects of ages ranging from 19 to 86 years (mean (SD): 42.4 (24.0) years) were retrospectively analysed to assess the …

A Randomized-Controlled Study of Intrathecal Versus Epidural Thoracic Analgesia in Patients Undergoing Abdominal Cancer Surgery

2008

Background. We sought to determine the effectiveness of continuous intrathecal thoracic analgesia (ITA) in comparison with continuous epidural thoracic analgesia (ETA) for the management of postoperative pain after abdominal cancer surgery in a randomised controlled study. Materials and methods. Catheters were inserted at T8-10 level for both techniques. Sixty patients were randomized to receive ITA providing levobupivacaine 0.25%, at 0.5-0-7 ml/h, associated with a single bolus of morphine 0.15 mg, or ETA with levobupivacaine 0.25% 4-6 ml/h and a single bolus of epidural morphine 2-3 mg. Data were collected before discharging from recovery room to the surgical ward, 1, 2, 3, 8, 12, 24 h, a…

Long-term efficacy and tolerability of intranasal fentanyl in the treatment of breakthrough cancer pain

2015

Purpose: The aim of the present study was to assess the long-term tolerability and efficacy of intranasal fentanyl (INFS) in opioid-tolerant patients with breakthrough cancer pain (BTP).Patients and methods: A 6 months, observational, prospective, cohort study design was employed to follow advanced cancer patients with BTP receiving INFS under routine clinical practice. Eligible adult cancer patients suffering from BTP had been prescribed INFS at effective doses. Data were collected at T0 and at month intervals for six months. The principal outcomes were the evaluation of possible serious adverse effects with prolonged use of INFS, the efficacy of BTP treatment with INFS, the quality of sle…

Sleepiness, sleep, and use of sleepiness countermeasures in shift-working long-haul truck drivers

2015

Driver sleepiness is a prevalent phenomenon among professional drivers working unconventional and irregular hours. For compromising occupational and traffic safety, sleepiness has become one of the major conundrums of road transportation. To further elucidate the phenomenon, an on-road study canvassing the under-explored relationship between working hours and sleepiness, sleep, and use of sleepiness countermeasures during and outside statutory rest breaks was conducted. Testing the association between the outcomes and working hours, generalized estimating equations models were fitted on a data collected from 54 long-haul truck drivers (mean 38.1 ± 10.5 years, one female) volunteering in the…
