The Reduction of Dimension in the Study of Economic Growth Models

We examine the dimension reduction method and prove that it could be misleading if we try to get some insight into the dynamics of the original system from the dynamics of the transformed system alone. The reduced system seemingly may give rise to a continuum multiplicity of steady states when, actually, it does exist a unique and isolated steady state or even it does not exist a steady state at all. We show how the dynamics for the primary variables that is recovered from the solution to the reduced system may be refuted by solving the original one. The functional-psychological continuum in the cognitive image of a destination: A confirmatory analysis

Abstract This paper analyses the cognitive component of the image of a destination from a dual perspective. Firstly, we study its composition by positing three positions on a continuum: functional, mixed and psychological, which are analysed using confirmatory factor analysis. Secondly, we study the influence of these components on tourists' overall image of the destination and on their future behaviour intentions, using structural equation analysis. A non-supervised approach to locate and to measure the nuchal translucency by means of wavelet analysis and neural networks

Ultrasound imaging is a well known noninvasive way to evaluate various diseases during the prenatal age. In particular, the thickness measure of the nuchal transucency is strictly correlated with pathologies like trisomy 13, 18 and 21. For a correct investigation, the methodology needs mid-sagittal sections and the proposed approach is based on wavelet analysis and neural network classifiers to locate components useful to identify mid-sagittal planes. To evaluate the performance and the robustness of the methodology, real clinical ultrasound images were considered, obtaining an average error of at most 0.3 millimeters in 97.4% of the cases.

We study the optimal constant in a Sobolev inequality for BV functions with zero mean value and vanishing outside a bounded open set. We are interested in finding the best possible embedding constant in terms of the measure of the domain alone. We set up an optimal shape problem and we completely characterize the behavior of optimal domains.
