Characterization of clamp-on current transformers under nonsinusoidal conditions
2009
This paper reports the performance of clamp-on current transformers under nonsinusoidal conditions. A set of experimental measurements helped to determine the ratio and the phase errors under two conditions: 1) sinusoidal excitation with frequencies from 45 to 1000 Hz and 2) nonsinusoidal excitation using the fundamental frequency and one harmonic, with adjusted phase shift. It was found that ratio and phase errors are affected by the phase angle between the harmonic and the fundamental and the harmonic amplitude. The effects of conductor location in the current transformer's window and of the air-gap width were also investigated. It was concluded that harmonic phase and ratio errors measur…
DSP Implementation for Measuring the Loop Gain Frequency Response of Digitally Controlled Power Converters
2012
This paper presents a method for measuring the loop gain frequency response of digitally controlled power converters, without the need of any expensive measurement equipment such as frequency response analyzers (FRA). The method is based on the traditional perturbation and measurement scheme. The perturbation is internally synthesized by the DSP and applied as pulse-width modulation to the converter. The loop input and output data are sent to a PC via universal serial bus, which performs online the DFT of sent data. The perturbation amplitude is varied with frequency to improve signal-to-noise ratio of measurements. The number of cycles used to perform discrete Fourier transform calculation…
Design and Characterization of a New MV PLC Coupler for Smart Electric Energy Systems
2018
This paper deals with the design, modeling and characterization of a new coupling system for medium voltage (MV) narrow band power line communications (NB-PLC). It exploits the capacitive divider of voltage detecting systems (VDSs) normally used to reveal the mains voltage presence, thus avoiding the use of dedicated MV couplers. The proposed coupling system was patented by the authors. In this paper, the modeling of the VDS capacitive divider is presented, using a proper characterization method. Moreover, the interface card design is described, based on simulation of the whole PLC transmission channel. Laboratory tests are also presented and discussed. More in detail, a frequency response …
CARATTERIZZAZIONE DELL’ATTRITO SU COMPONENTI PER APPLICAZIONI ORTODONTICHE MEDIANTE UN SIMULATORE “IN VITRO”
2010
Further considerations on a new indicator for higher education student performance
2016
This paper joins the international debate…
Reduced reference 3D mesh quality assessment based on statistical models
2015
International audience; During their geometry processing and transmission 3D meshes are subject to various visual processing operations like compression, watermarking, remeshing, noise addition and so forth. In this context it is indispensable to evaluate the quality of the distorted mesh, we talk here about the mesh visual quality (MVQ) assessment. Several works have tried to evaluate the MVQ using simple geometric measures, However this metrics do not correlate well with the subjective score since they fail to reflect the perceived quality. In this paper we propose a new objective metric to evaluate the visual quality between a mesh with a perfect quality called reference mesh and its dis…
A study of capillary discharge lamps in Ar–Hg and Xe–Hg mixtures
2011
Low-pressure capillary discharge lamps in Ar–Hg and Xe–Hg mixtures are studied. The discharge size is 0.5 mm (500 µm) in radius. According to the literature, such types of plasma sources are classified as microplasmas. The studies include spectrally resolved optical measurements, tomographic reconstructions and numerical simulations using the collisional–radiative model for an Ar–Hg plasma. We discuss the problems of theoretical modelling and experimental diagnostics of microplasma sources. It is shown that the conventional collisional–radiative model, based on the assumption that transportation of atoms in the highly excited states can be neglected, has limitations in modelling a capillary…
The efficiency of gel permeation chromatography
2007
The resolution power of gel permeation chromatography (GPC) columns and their combinations is tested as a function of the pore sizes of the gels and as a function of the elution velocity. The efficiency of GPC is characterized by the ratio UG/UT, where UG is the experimental, and UT the theoretical, inhomogeneity. The latter quantity is obtained from absolute measurements of Mw, and Mn. The ratio passes through a minimum for a series of columns with increasing pore sizes. The minimum occurs at that column or column set which is best suited to resolving a given polymer. UG/UT for any column decreases with decreasing elution velocity. At a certain velocity UG/UT becomes 1. This velocity is us…
A Trajectory-Driven 3D Non-Stationary mm-Wave MIMO Channel Model for a Single Moving Point Scatterer
2021
This paper proposes a new non-stationary three-dimensional (3D) channel model for a physical millimeter wave (mm-Wave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) channel. This MIMO channel model is driven by the trajectory of a moving point scatterer, which allows us to investigate the impact of a single moving point scatterer on the propagation characteristics in an indoor environment. Starting from the time-variant (TV) channel transfer function, the temporal behavior of the proposed non-stationary channel model has been analyzed by studying the TV micro-Doppler characteristics and the TV mean Doppler shift. The proposed channel model has been validated by measurements performed in an indoor e…
WiWeHAR: Multimodal Human Activity Recognition Using Wi-Fi and Wearable Sensing Modalities
2020
Robust and accurate human activity recognition (HAR) systems are essential to many human-centric services within active assisted living and healthcare facilities. Traditional HAR systems mostly leverage a single sensing modality (e.g., either wearable, vision, or radio frequency sensing) combined with machine learning techniques to recognize human activities. Such unimodal HAR systems do not cope well with real-time changes in the environment. To overcome this limitation, new HAR systems that incorporate multiple sensing modalities are needed. Multiple diverse sensors can provide more accurate and complete information resulting in better recognition of the performed activities. This article…
