On the Computational Aspects of a Symmetric Multidomain Boundary Element Method Approach for Elastoplastic Analysis

The symmetric boundary element method (SBEM) is applied to the elasto-plastic analysis of bodies subdivided into substructures. This methodology is based on the use of: a multidomain SBEM approach, for the evaluation of the elastic predictor; a return mapping algorithm based on the extremal paths theory, for the evaluation of inelastic quantities characterizing the plastic behaviour of each substructure; and a transformation of the domain inelastic integrals of each substructure into corresponding boundary integrals. Identification of stiffness,dissipation and input parameters of randomly excited non-linear systems: Capability of restricted potential models (RPM)

Abstract A dynamic identification technique in the time domain for time invariant systems under random external forces is presented. This technique is based on the use of the class of restricted potential models (RPM), which are characterized by a non-linear stiffness and a special form of damping, that is a product of the input power spectral density (PSD) matrix and the velocity gradient of a non-linear function of the total mechanical energy. Recent developments in the symmetric boundary element method (SBEM) have shown a clear superiority of this formulation over the collocation method. Its competitiveness has been tested in comparison to the finite element method (FEM) and is manifested in several engineering problems in which internal boundaries are present, i.e. those in which the body shows a jump in the physical characteristics of the material and in which an appropriate study of the response must be used. Elastic plastic analysis iterative solution

The step-by-step analysis of finite element elastic plastic structures subjected to an assigned (quasi-static) loading history, is considered; it identifies with the well-known sequence of linear complementarity problems. An iterative technique devoted to solve the relevant linear complementarity problem is presented. It is based on the recursive solution of a suitable linear complementarity problem, deduced from the relevant one and easier than it. The procedure convergency is proved. Contrasting probabilistic and anti-optimization approaches in an applied mechanics problem

Probabilistic and non-probabilistic, anti-optimization analyses of uncertainty are contrasted in this study. Specifically, the comparison of these two competing approaches is conducted for an uniform column, with initial geometric imperfection, subjected to an impact axial load. The reliability of the column is derived for the cases when the initial imperfections posses either (a) uniform probability density, (b) truncated exponential density or (c) generic truncated probability density. Itô calculus extended to systems driven by -stable Lévy white noises (a novel clip on the tails of Lévy motion)

Abstract The paper deals with probabilistic characterization of the response of non-linear systems under α -stable Levy white noise input. It is shown that, by properly selecting a clip in the probability density function of the input, the moments of the increments of Levy motion process remain all of the same order ( d t ) , like the increments of the Compound Poisson process. It follows that the Ito calculus extended to Poissonian input, may also be used for α -stable Levy white noise input processes. Korrosionsschichten auf Stahl nach Exposition in Wasser mit bestimmter Harte und Chloridgehalt wurden hinsichtlich der Wirksamkeit beigefugter organischer Inhibitoren mittels Mosbauer- und ESCA-Spektroskopie untersucht. Es entstehen relativ dicke Schichten mit einem unerwartet niedrigen Eisengehalt in Form von FeOOH. Die Schichten enthalten merkliche Mengen von Ionen aus der Testlosung und auch Abbauprodukte der Inhibitormolekule. Letztere werden anscheinend in dem korrosiven Medium zersetzt. Facilitated SLM extraction of peptides with D2EHPA as a carrier

Abstract The extraction of short peptides through a supported liquid membrane containing di-2-(ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (D2EHPA) as a carrier was investigated. The extraction was carried out from the aqueous donor phase with pH 3 to amore acidic acceptor phase. The proton gradient between the donor and the acceptor phase was the main driving force of the mass transfer in this system. The influence of various parameters such as diluent of the carrier, pH of the donor and acceptor phase, peptide structure and concentration on the extraction efficiency was presented.
