Measurement of the atmospheric ?µ energy spectrum from 100 GeV to 200 TeV with the ANTARES telescope

Atmospheric neutrinos are produced during cascades initiated by the interaction of primary cosmic rays with air nuclei. In this paper, a measurement of the atmospheric energy spectrum in the energy range 0.1-200 TeV is presented, using data collected by the ANTARES underwater neutrino telescope from 2008 to 2011. Overall, the measured flux is similar to 25 % higher than predicted by the conventional neutrino flux, and compatible with the measurements reported in ice. The flux is compatible with a single power-law dependence with spectral index gamma (meas)=3.58 +/- 0.12. With the present statistics the contribution of prompt neutrinos cannot be established.

Efecto de la contaminación ambiental sobre las superficies foliares de Pinus nigra de Els Ports (Castellón)

Possible alterations caused by air pollution in the wax structures of Pinus nigra needles, growing in 'els Ports' location (Castellón), have been examined by scanning electron microscopy. Our results show that the percentage of structurally functional epistomatic chambers decrease with needle age, being the adaxial surfaces preferently eroded. Structural alterations of epistomatic waxes in needles from trees growing in this area are greatly enhanced in comparison to controls.

We analyze in this paper the reasons why has been introduced the concept of Antropoceno as a new geological period in which the great changes suffered by the Earth -and more precisely by the biosphere- are due to human action. On the other hand, we intend to show that this new period constitutes an opportunity to rethink human behavior to overcome the situation of planetary emergency and make possible a sustainable future.

En el número 6 (3) de Revista Eureka, lanzamos la propuesta de dedicar un monográfico a la educación para la sostenibilidad, con motivo de cumplirse el "paso del ecuador" de la Década de la educación por un futuro sostenible (DEDS, 2005-2014). El 1 de enero de 2005 se inició el Decenio de la educación para el desarrollo sostenible, instituido por Naciones Unidas como un llamamiento a los educadores de todas áreas y niveles, tanto de la educación formal (desde la escuela primaria a la universidad) como informal (museos, media...), para que contribuyamos a formar ciudadanas y ciudadanos conscientes de los problemas socioambientales a los que se enfrenta hoy la humanidad y preparados para participar en la toma de decisiones fundamentadas para hacerles frente.

Abstract. The scant response of citizens to reiterated calls for attention to the serious problems affecting all humanity leads to a belief that there are serious obstacles that must be studied in order to understand how to overcome them. In this work we will focus on one of the more important of these problems - the widespread yet incorrect perception that the action of the individual is of little importance - and we will attempt to show from an eminently practical viewpoint the relevance, for the construction of a sustainable future, of what each one of us does or does not do, in general - as a consumer, professional and citizen - and in particular - in the sphere of education.

Cuando apenas ha transcurrido el primer tercio de la Década de la Educación por un futuro sostenible, la toma de conciencia acerca de la situación de emergencia planetaria ha avanzado notablemente: las noticias de cambio climático, degradación ambiental, agotamiento de recursos, desequilibrios insostenibles, etc., han saltado a las primeras páginas y editoriales de los periódicos, con una creciente atención a la necesidad y posibilidad de hacer frente a este conjunto de problemas estrechamente vinculados.
