Physiological and practical considerations on liver regeneration after liver transplantion

2019

FISH: Face Intensity-Shape Histogram representation for automatic face splicing detection

2019

Abstract Tampered images spread nowadays over any visual media influencing our judgement in many aspects of our life. This is particularly critical for face splicing manipulations, where recognizable identities are put out of context. To contrast these activities on a large scale, automatic detectors are required. In this paper, we present a novel method for automatic face splicing detection, based on computer vision, that exploits inconsistencies in the lighting environment estimated from different faces in the scene. Differently from previous approaches, we do not rely on an ideal mathematical model of the lighting environment. Instead, our solution, built upon the concept of histogram-ba…

Hybrid blind robust image watermarking technique based on DFT-DCT and Arnold transform

2018

In this paper, a robust blind image watermarking method is proposed for copyright protection of digital images. This hybrid method relies on combining two well-known transforms that are the discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and the discrete cosine transform (DCT). The motivation behind this combination is to enhance the imperceptibility and the robustness. The imperceptibility requirement is achieved by using magnitudes of DFT coefficients while the robustness improvement is ensured by applying DCT to the DFT coefficients magnitude. The watermark is embedded by modifying the coefficients of the middle band of the DCT using a secret key. The security of the proposed method is enhanced by appl…

A General Framework for Complex Network-Based Image Segmentation

2019

International audience; With the recent advances in complex networks theory, graph-based techniques for image segmentation has attracted great attention recently. In order to segment the image into meaningful connected components, this paper proposes an image segmentation general framework using complex networks based community detection algorithms. If we consider regions as communities, using community detection algorithms directly can lead to an over-segmented image. To address this problem, we start by splitting the image into small regions using an initial segmentation. The obtained regions are used for building the complex network. To produce meaningful connected components and detect …

Gesture recognition using low-cost devices: Techniques, applications, perspectives

2016

Successivamente, saranno presentati alcuni…

A comparative analysis of two immersive virtual reality systems in the integration and visualization of natural hand interaction

2022

AbstractIt is generally accepted that the use of natural interaction provides a positive impact in Virtual Reality (VR) applications. Therefore, it is important to understand what is the best way to integrate and visualize this feature in VR. For this reason, this paper presents a comparative study of the integration of natural hand interaction in two immersive VR systems: a Cave Audio Visual Experience (CAVE) system –where users’ real hands are visible– and a non-see-through Head-Mounted Display (HMD) system –where only a virtual representation of the hands is possible–. In order to test the suitability of using this type of interaction in a CAVE and compare it to an HMD, we raise six rese…

The Anatomy of an Optical Biopsy Semantic Retrieval System

2012

A case-based computer-aided diagnosis system assists physicians and other medical personnel in the interpretation of optical biopsies obtained through confocal laser endomicroscopy. Extraction in CLE images shows promising results on inferring semantic metadata from low-level features. In order to effectively ensure the interoperability with potential third-party applications, the system provides an interface compliant with the recent standards ISO/IEC 15938-12:2008 (MPEG Query Format) and ISO/IEC 24800 (JPEG Search).

Integral Imaging Monitors with an Enlarged Viewing Angle

2015

Enlarging the horizontal viewing angle is an important feature of integral imaging monitors. Thus far, the horizontal viewing angle has been enlarged in different ways, such as by changing the size of the elemental images or by tilting the lens array in the capture and reconstruction stages. However, these methods are limited by the microlenses used in the capture stage and by the fact that the images obtained cannot be easily projected into different displays. In this study, we upgrade our previously reported method, called SPOC 2.0. In particular, our new approach, which can be called SPOC 2.1, enlarges the viewing angle by increasing the density of the elemental images in the horizontal …

Three-Dimensional Imaging and Display through Integral Photography

2014

Here, we present a review of the proposals and advances in the field of three-dimensional (3D) imaging acquisition and display made in the last century. The most popular techniques are based on the concept of stereoscopy. However, stereoscopy does not provide real 3D experience, and produces discomfort due to the conflict between convergence and accommodation. For this reason, we focus this paper on integral imaging, which is a technique that permits the codification of 3D information in an array of 2D images obtained from different perspectives. When this array of elemental images is placed in front of an array of microlenses, the perspectives are integrated producing 3D images with full p…
