Treatment of Non-Melanoma Skin Cancer with Different Radiation Techniques
2014
ABSTRACT Aim: To compare local control and toxicity in non melanoma skin cancer treated with electrons and Leipzig applicators. Methods: We evaluated 60 patients (pts) with non melanoma skin cancer treated using electrons and Leipzig applicators (microselectron-HDR afterloader). The lesions were: 30 basal cell cancer, 17 squamous cell cancer, 10 basosquamous cell cancer, 1 dermatofibrosarcoma, 1 keloid, 1 histiocytoma fibrosus. Median age was 54 (25-84). The lesions were localized on head and neck, except 1 in the sternum and 1 in posterior part of knee. 49 pts underwent surgery before radiation treatment with negative margin in 38 pts and positive margins in 11. 30 pts were treated with el…
Impact of Cumulative Dose of Carfilzomib in Combination with Lenalidomide and Dexamethasone in Relapsed Refractory Myeloma Patients: A Retrospective …
2018
Abstract Background: Triplet-based lenalidomide plus dexamethasone (Rd) combinations have become the new standard of care for early relapse and refractory multiple myeloma (RRMM). Carfilzomib is a novel selective proteasome inhibitor (PI) with high efficacy in RRMM. The ASPIRE phase 3 trial showed the superiority of carfilzomib-based triplet (KRd compared to Rd), leading to approval of K for RRMM. However, little is known about safety and efficacy of KRd outside a clinical trial context. Experimental design and aims: In 11 Sicilian Centers belonging to the Sicilian Myeloma Network, from November 2016, when KRd regimen was approved in Italy, to June 2018, 103 consecutive RRMM patients (previ…
Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation for T Cell Lymphomas: Improved Results Overtime
2019
INTRODUCTION: Allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT) is the only curative strategy for relapsed/refractory T cell lymphoma (T-NHL). In the past ten years, there have been several improvements in conditioning regimens and graft versus host disease prophylaxis (GVHD), which have contributed to lower transplant-related mortality (TRM). Also, selective and low toxicity therapies, might improve response quality in some T-NHL Recently, haploidentical stem cell transplantation (Haplo) with post-transplant cyclophosphamide is a new option for those patients who do not have an HLA-identical sibling or a suitable unrelated donor, but also it has shortened the time for urgent cas…
Slowed abduction saccades in bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia
1992
Horizontal eye movements were investigated in 65 patients with bilateral internuclear ophthalmoplegia utilizing direct current electro-oculography. Abduction saccades were slowed in 35 patients (53.8%), being hypermetric in 65.7% of them. Slowing of abduction saccades is attributed to impaired inhibition of the tonic resting activity of the antagonistic medial rectus muscle. Experimental data indicate that this slowing results from a lesion of an uncrossed connection between the pontine reticular formation and the oculomotor nucleus. The prevalence of hypermetric abduction saccades increased with increasing severity of adduction paresis on the opposite eye. This confirms the view that media…
Blood Coagulation and Thrombosis in Patients with Ovarian Malignancy
1997
SummaryOvarian cancer cells appear to be capable of both thrombin formation and induction of fibrin degradation which may be essential prerequisites for the development of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) as well as the spread of malignancy. To study further this coagulation – cancer interaction in 60 patients with untreated ovarian cancer of FIGO stage I-IV the incidence of DVT was recorded pre-operatively, postoperatively on day 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, before each of six cycles of Cisplati- num/Epirubicin/Cyclophosphamide chemotherapy, during follow-up and in the post-operative period of second look surgery. In addition, blood coagulation tests results were determined prospectively. Two patients were e…
European guidelines on chronic mesenteric ischaemia - joint United European Gastroenterology, European Association for Gastroenterology, Endoscopy an…
2020
Chronic mesenteric ischaemia is a severe and incapacitating disease, causing complaints of post-prandial pain, fear of eating and weight loss. Even though chronic mesenteric ischaemia may progress to acute mesenteric ischaemia, chronic mesenteric ischaemia remains an underappreciated and undertreated disease entity. Probable explanations are the lack of knowledge and awareness among physicians and the lack of a gold standard diagnostic test. The underappreciation of this disease results in diagnostic delays, underdiagnosis and undertreating of patients with chronic mesenteric ischaemia, potentially resulting in fatal acute mesenteric ischaemia. This guideline provides a comprehensive overvi…
Lasten mediankäyttö ja sen yhteys lukutaitoon
2015
Tutkimus on osa Jyväskylän yliopistossa toteutettavaa Alkuportaat-seurantatutkimusta. Aineisto on kerätty vuoden 2013 keväällä oppilaiden ollessa 6. luokalla. Tutkimuk…
Media landscapes in school and in free time – two paralel realities?
2008
This article is based on an extensive research project (Towards Future Literacy Pedagogies, ToLP1 ) that deals with the literacy practices of Finnish and immigrant pupils, mother tongue (MT) and foreign language (FL) teachers. The overall aim of the project is to explore and interpret literacy practices both in school and out-of-school contexts by employing large-scale quantitative research approaches as well as qualitative classroom observations and teacher and pupil interviews. In this article, we will report findings of the comprehensive survey, our specific focus being on the materials and media the teachers and pupils use in school and in their free time. We are interested in exploring…
Development of a Scoring System to Evaluate the Severity of Craniocervical Spinal Cord Compression in Patients with Mucopolysaccharidosis IVA (Morqui…
2012
BackgroundAs spinal cord compression at the craniocervical junction (CCJ) is a life-threatening manifestation in patients with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) IVA, surgical decompression should be performed before damage becomes irreversible. We evaluated the diagnostic value of several examinations for determining the need for decompression surgery.MethodsWe retrospectively analysed results of clinical neurological examination, somatosensory evoked potential (SEP) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in 28 MPS IVA patients. A scoring system - based on the severity of findings - was used to compare results of patients with and without indication for decompression surgery. Individual test scores…
Kritiikki kriisissä? : sisällönanalyyttinen näkökulma musiikkikritiikin muutokseen Helsingin Sanomissa vuosina 1992 ja 2012
2013
Perehdyn tutkielmassani sisällönanalyysin avulla taidemusiikin konserttikritiikin muutokseen Helsingin Sanomissa. Tutkimu…
