Workload, job satisfaction and occupational stress in Polish midwives before and during the COVID-19 pandemic

2021

Background The aim of this study was to describe, explain, and compare the correlations between workload, job satisfaction, and occupational stress levels in Polish midwives working before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods This study was cross-lagged in nature and conducted in 2 phases at public health facilities. The first phase took place between March and August 2018 before the current pandemic, and the second in February 2021. In total, 133 midwives working before the COVID-19 pandemic and 92 midwives working during the pandemic were surveyed. Results Analysis revealed that working during the pandemic, personal SARS-CoV-2 infection and workload were positive predict…

ADR Mechanisms and Their Incorporation into Global Justice in the Twenty-First Century: Some Concepts and Trends

2014

The State and State courts have been approached for centuries as the almost only available instruments to ensure access to justice to citizens; that is to guarantee the right to an effective remedy before an independent and impartial tribunal previously established by law within a reasonable time. A monopoly for the State in the field of dispute resolution has existed to the extent that despite the long presence of non-judicial instruments of dispute resolution in many jurisdictions, they have been traditionally considered as marginal in most countries and have lacked real implementation by citizens and legal actors.Unfortunately, the situation is not fully satisfactory. State courts have b…

Effective pursuit of personal goals: The fostering effect of dispositional optimism on goal commitment and goal progress

2015

Abstract Personal goals play a leading role in directing behavior and influencing well-being. Thus, it is important to assess goal dimensions promoting effective goal pursuit. The current research aimed at identifying the best predictors of goal pursuit, operationalized as perceived goal progress, among goal-related variables and individual differences in dispositional optimism. Two studies examined the influence of optimism on goal progress, commitment, expectancy, value, and conflict. Moreover, the mediation effect of expectancy in the relationships among optimism, commitment and progress was assessed. Participants in the first cross-sectional study were 283 young people (19–32 years old)…

La problématique de l'Etat de droit en Afrique de l'ouest : analyse comparée de la situation de la Côte d'Ivoire, de la Mauritanie, du Libéria et de …

2009

The question of the Rule of law arises more and more with much acuity in Africa in general and in West Africa in particular. The observable deficit of Rule of law in certain countries of this region is one of the root causes of belligerence and crisis with dramatic consequences: violation of Human rights, desinstitutionalization, refusal of democratic alternation, impunity, poverty, insecurity, etc…Côte d’Ivoire, Mauritania, Liberia, and Sierra Leone are not immune to this. These countries are characterized by particular situations in the light of the crisis they encounter and have encountered, as well as common issues in the long and difficult quest for the establishment of the Rule of Law…

Modelling Collaborative Logistics Policies that Impact the Performance of the Agricultural Sector

2018

The performance of the agricultural sector is considered a fundamental factor for achieving sustainability of the most vulnerable population as well to meet the world’s food needs. This is how countries like Colombia, recognize in their government plans the importance of the development of sector leveraged by infrastructures boosting their results, however, the instrumentation and design of public policies are a challenge for the governors given the dynamic complexity of the system. Through this research, we propose a model for the analysis of logistic public policies in the agricultural sector of the potato, where the collaboration through public-private partnerships (PPP) for the implemen…

The “I” between G and C: E-Government intermediaries in developing countries

2011

Published version of an article from the journal: The Electronic Journal of Information Systems in Developing Countries. Also available from the publisher: http://www.ejisdc.org/Ojs2/index.php/ejisdc/article/viewFile/826/371 While there has been a rapid growth in e-Government initiatives in developing countries, whether it has led to providing effective government services to the citizens has remained a question of concern. Evidence suggests that this objective is far from being met. The main hurdle has been that an overwhelming part of the citizens in these countries do not have the capability to either access government information physically or to use it effectively even when they can ac…

Compatibility of surfactants with activated-persulfate for the selective oxidation of PAH in groundwater remediation

2017

Abstract Surfactants foam technology can improve the in situ remediation of hydrophobic organic contaminants by enhancing their solubility and the delivery of remediation chemicals. However, the presence of surfactants may impair the effectiveness of the selective oxidation of those contaminants. To tackle the issue, kinetics and selectivity of phenanthrene (PHE) oxidation in aqueous suspensions and its affecting factors including surfactant concentration (CS) and nature, temperature and persulfate (PS) concentration were studied. Significant differences in selectivity were observed between surfactants, reflecting Coulomb interactions with the anionic oxidizers. Lauryl Betaine (LB) stood ou…

Interpreting in the Community and Workplace. A Practical Teaching Guide

2011

A handbook for trainers of community, public service and business interpreting with a wide range of classroom exercises and annotated dialogues Literature on the assessment of interpreters has grown rapidly in the emerging field of Community- and Public Service Interpreting, but there is still very little practical training material available. Numerous studies have demonstrated the importance of using trained rather than ad-hoc interpreters. This educational tool for trainers in all fields of dialogue interpreting hopes to fill precisely that gap. Although the focus is on two key areas, the legal and health sectors, the book also includes business interpreting, which is a source of employme…

Physics beyond colliders at CERN: beyond the Standard Model working group report

2019

The Physics Beyond Colliders initiative is an exploratory study aimed at exploiting the full scientific potential of the CERN's accelerator complex and scientific infrastructures through projects complementary to the LHC and other possible future colliders. These projects will target fundamental physics questions in modern particle physics. This document presents the status of the proposals presented in the framework of the Beyond Standard Model physics working group, and explore their physics reach and the impact that CERN could have in the next 10–20 years on the international landscape.

The human side of leadership: exploring the relationship between servant leadership, organisational facilitators and happiness at work

2018

Although human resource management (HRM) research has established a significant relationship between leadership styles and different attitudinal outcomes, few studies have considered the important role of organisational facilitators as a more proximal outcome of servant leadership to explain happiness at work (HAW). This paper explores the relationships between servant leadership, organisational facilitators and HAW, based on the leader-member exchange (LMX) and job-demands resources (JD-R) theories. Individual-level analyses from a sample of 189 machine operators revealed that organisational facilitators fully mediate the relationship between servant leadership and HAW. The discussion revi…
