Pharmacogenomic Characterization of Cytotoxic Compounds from Salvia officinalis in Cancer Cells.

Salvia officinalis is used as a dietary supplement with diverse medicinal activity (e.g. antidiabetic and antiatherosclerotic effects). The plant also exerts profound cytotoxicity toward cancer cells. Here, we investigated possible modes of action to explain its activity toward drug-resistant tumor cells. Log10IC50 values of two constituents of S. officinalis (ursolic acid, pomolic acid) were correlated to the expression of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters (P-glycoprotein/ABCB1/MDR1, MRP1/ABCC1, BCRP/ABCG2) and epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) or mutations in RAS oncogenes and the tumor suppressor gene TP53 of the NCI panel of cell lines. Recognition of oxovanadium(V) species and its separation from other metal species through selective complexation by some acyclic ligands

Acyclic molecules possessing –OH (phenoxo and alkoxo type) groups and imine or amine moieties have been developed to sense the specific preference for VO3+ species. These molecules also showed a capability to quantitatively separate oxovanadium(V) species from a reaction mixture containing metal species of V, Mo, U, Fe, and Mn ions in solution. A cascade quantitative separation of VO3+ followed by cis–MoO2+2 followed by trans –UO2+2 species is demonstrated from their mixture. Synthesis and structural details of oxo-species of vanadium molybdenum and uranium are also discussed. Factors influencing the complexation of these molecules towards oxo metal species of V, Mo and U are also addressed.

Preparative and spectroscopic features of ferricenium tetrachloroferrate(III). Interconversion to diferricenium ?-oxo-bis[trichloroferrate(III)]

Ferricenium tetrachloroferrate(III)(1), one of the more frequently cited ferricenium salts, has recently attracted biomedical interest because of its pronounced antineoplastic activity against Ehrlich ascites murine tumor. In this paper, synthetic methods are reinvestigated in an effort to prepare pure(1) free from a common contaminant, diferriceniumμ-oxo-bis(trichloroferrate)(3). Dual targeting of higher-order DNA structures by azacryptands induces DNA junction-mediated DNA damage in cancer cells

Abstract DNA is intrinsically dynamic and folds transiently into alternative higher-order structures such as G-quadruplexes (G4s) and three-way DNA junctions (TWJs). G4s and TWJs can be stabilised by small molecules (ligands) that have high chemotherapeutic potential, either as standalone DNA damaging agents or combined in synthetic lethality strategies. Abstract Getting useful chemical information from samples containing many compounds is still a challenge to analysts in liquid chromatography. The highest complexity corresponds to samples for which there is no prior knowledge about their chemical composition. The prevalence of nosocomial infections due to multidrug resistant (MDR) bacterial strains is associated with high morbidity and mortality. Folk medicine and ethnopharmacological data can provide a broad range of plants with promising antimicrobial activity. Triphala, an Ayurvedic formula composed of three different plants: Terminalia chebula Retz., Terminalia bellirica (Gaertn.) Roxb. (Combretaceae), and Phyllanthus emblica L. Abstract Consistent vapor–liquid equilibria (VLE) were determined for the ternary system isobutyl alcohol (IBA) + isobutyl acetate (IBAc) + N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) and two constituent binary systems at 101.3 kPa. The IBA + DMF system exhibits negative deviation from ideal behaviour and IBAc + DMF system deviates positively from ideal behaviour. The activity coefficients of the solutions were correlated with its composition by the Wilson, NRTL and UNIQUAC models. The ternary system is well predicted from binary interaction parameters.

Isobaric Vapor−Liquid Equilibria for Binary and Ternary Mixtures of Dipropyl Ether, 1-Propyl Alcohol, and Butyl Propionate

Consistent vapor−liquid equilibrium (VLE) data at 101.3 kPa have been determined for the ternary system dipropyl ether + 1-propyl alcohol + butyl propionate and two constituent binary systems:  dipropyl ether + butyl propionate and 1-propyl alcohol + butyl propionate. The dipropyl ether + butyl propionate system exhibits ideal behavior, and the 1-propyl alcohol + butyl propionate system shows positive deviations from Raoult's law.
