Catania waterfront identity is based on spatial relationships between the “Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto” UNESCO site and the infrastructures – rail and harbour – that are in front of the XVI century city wall. Many realised and ongoing regeneration projects in this area (will) have impacts on cultural heritage. Protecting the cultural heritage will be critical to the promotion of a sense of identity and it should be a part of a further development that balances transformations with heritage protection. Comparison of the mycelial growth of some Phellinus spp. isolates on different agar media

Celem pracy było określenie i porównanie wzrostu grzybni Phellinus spp. Użyto dziewięciu izolatów z gatunków: P. torulosus, P. robustus, P. pomaceus, P. igniarius i P. pini, które uprawiano na czterech różnych pożywkach agarowych, aby określić ich przydatność dla rodzaju Phellinus. Zastosowano pożywki: ziemniaczano-glukozową (PDA), maltozową (MEA), pszenną (WA) i trocinowo-pszenną (SWA). Po 10 dniach inkubacji w 25°C zmierzono średnice kolonii. Artykuł prezentuje dane dotyczące wzrostu grzybni (G) i krótkie opisy koloni na MEA. Wszystkie izolaty wykazały mały wzrost na MEA i duży wzrost na WA, SWA i PDA. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are a proxy for climate- and human-related historical fire activity which has rarely been used beyond 1800 AD. We explored the concentration and composition patterns of PAHs together with other proxies (charcoal, C, N, S, δ13C, δ15N, and δ34S) in a sediment core of Holzmaar as indicators of variations in climate and anthropogenic activity over the past 2600 years. The concentrations of pyrogenic PAHs remained low (< 500 ng g− 1) from the pre-Roman Iron Age (600 BC) until the first significant increases to ca. 1000–1800 ng g− 1 between 1700 and 1750 AD related to regional iron production.
