The amphipathic peptide mellitin as a tool to study the membrane-dependent activation of tissue transglutaminase

2001

The role of membrane phospholipids on the cross-linking activity of guinea pig liver (tissue) transglutaminase has been investigated using the amphipathic model peptide melittin as glutaminyl substrate and the primary amine monodansylcadaverine as extrinsic amine donor. A marked increase of transglutaminase catalytic activity was observedin vitro assays in the presence of neutral membrane phospholipids. In contrast, activation was abolished in the presence of membranes containing pure anionic lipids. Enzyme activation could be ascribed to a direct binding of the lipid to the protein as demonstrated in enzymatic assays using a non membrane-interacting peptide (Cbz-Gln-Gly). The data obtained…

2022

Wśród wielu obecnych w Polsce zgromadzeń zakonnych odnaleźć można te, które budują swoją tożsamość wokół duchowej spuścizny proroka Eliasza i Najświętszej Maryi Panny z Góry Karmel. Został on wydany w 2015 roku w Marka…

Population genetic structure of the butterflyMelitaea didyma(Nymphalidae) along a northern distribution range border

1996

The population genetic structure of the butterfly Melitaea didyma was studied along the northern distribution range border in Central Germany by means of allozyme electrophoresis. Individuals were sampled from a total of 21 habitat patches from four regions, and two provinces. Sampling was designed to estimate local vs. regional differentiation. High levels of variability were found, He= 0.14-0.21. The mean expected sample heterozygosity from one region, Mosel, was significantly lower than from the Hammelburg region, He= 0.17 and 0.19, respectively. Two hierarchical levels of genetic differentiation were found. Within regions individuals sampled from different patches behaved as belonging t…

Exploiting Data Analytics and Deep Learning Systems to Support Pavement Maintenance Decisions

2021

Road networks are critical infrastructures within any region and it is imperative to maintain their conditions for safe and effective movement of goods and services. Road Management, therefore, plays a key role to ensure consistent efficient operation. However, significant resources are required to perform necessary maintenance activities to achieve and maintain high levels of service. Pavement maintenance can typically be very expensive and decisions are needed concerning planning and prioritizing interventions. Data are key towards enabling adequate maintenance planning but in many instances, there is limited available information especially in small or under-resourced urban road authorit…

Volcanic and anthropogenic contribution to heavy metal content in lichens from Mt. Etna and Vulcano island (Sicily)

1998

Major and trace element concentrations were determined in two lichen species (Parmelia conspersa and Xanthoria calcicola) from the island of Vulcano and all around Mt. Etna. In both areas, the average concentrations of Al, Ca, Mg, Fe, Na, K, P and Ti are substantially greater than those of other elements. Several elements (Br, Pb, Sb, Au, Zn, Cu) resulted enriched with respect to the local substrates. The Br and Pb enrichment factors turned out to be the highest among those calculated in both areas. Data indicate that mixing between volcanic and automotive-produced particles clearly explains the range of Pb/Br shown by lichen samples. Sb is also enriched, revealing a geogenic origin at Vulc…
