P-71ADOLESCENT ETHANOL EXPOSURE INDUCES LONG-TERM MEMORY DEFICITS AND POTENTIATES THE MEMORY IMPAIRMENT INDUCED BY COCAINE WITHDRAWAL IN ADULT MICE

2015

Ethanol (EtOH) heavy-binge drinking during pubertal development elicits long-lasting neurobehavioral alterations in the adulthood such as memory impairments. An early history of EtOH consumption is correlated with higher rates of cocaine addiction in the adulthood. One consequence of cocaine withdrawal is the induction of memory deficits. The aim of the present investigation was to study the consequences of adolescent exposure …

Association Between Fatigue and Cognitive Impairment at 6 Months in Patients With Ischemic Stroke Treated With Acute Revascularization Therapy.

2019

Background: Fatigue is a frequent symptom after stroke. We aimed to determine the association between fatigue and cognitive performance in patients with ischemic stroke who received acute revascularization therapy (IV thrombolysis and/or mechanical thrombectomy). Methods: Seventy patients were prospectively included in the stroke unit of the University Hospital of Dijon, France. A follow-up was performed at 6 months with clinical examination, fatigue assessment by the Fatigue Severity Scale (FSS), and a comprehensive neuropsychological evaluation. Patients with fatigue (FSS score >4) were compared with patients without fatigue. Neuropsychological factors associated with fatigue at 6 month…

A common role for psychotropic medications: memory impairment.

2002

Summary The psychopathologic profile of mental disorders is very diverse and psychotropic medications used to treat them differ in their chemical structure. Nevertheless, these drugs share these four characteristics: delayed onset of clinical response, not one of them can be said to cure, there is a high number of non-responders, and the mechanism responsible for their therapeutic action is not known. It is hypothesized that the action of psychotropic medications is memory impairment, understanding memory as the trace left in the nervous system not only by individual experiences but also by genetic and epigenetic phenomena. It is suggested that it would be beneficial to translate some resea…

Cognitive impairment in patients suffering from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis with EDSS ≤ 3.5

2003

Objectives – Previous papers have mainly demonstrated the presence and the frequency of cognitive impairment in patients suffering from relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis. The purpose of this study was to investigate subjects with the relapsing-remitting form of the disease and mild clinical disability (EDSS ≤ 3.5), so as to quantify this deficit when the illness does not yet interfere with daily living and the ability to work. Methods – Fifty patients and 50 healthy controls were submitted to a wide neuropsychological battery, including Wechsler Memory Scale – I- (WMS), Benton Visual Retention Test – D- (BVRT), Raven Coloured Progressive Matrices (RCPM), Kohs’ test (KT), Judgement of L…

SenseCam: A new tool for memory rehabilitation?

2016

International audience; The emergence of life-logging technologies has led neuropsychologist to focus on understanding how this new technology could help patients with memory disorders. Despite the growing number of studies using life-logging technologies, a theoretical framework supporting its effectiveness is lacking. This review focuses on the use of life-logging in the context of memory rehabilitation, particularly the use of SenseCam, a wearable camera allowing passive image capture. In our opinion, reviewing SenseCam images can be effective for memory rehabilitation only if it provides more than an assessment of prior occurrence in ways that reinstates previous thoughts, feelings and …
