The article sums up the memories and experiences of this group of professionals at the 50th Anniversary of the school's founding, which was held at the Col-legi Oficial de Diplomats en Treball Social i Assistents Socials de Valencia.
Rapid learning of a spatial memory task in a lacertid lizard (Podarcis liolepis).
2018
Abstract Mammals and birds are capable of navigating to a goal using learned map-like representations of space (i.e. place learning), but research assessing this navigational strategy in reptiles has produced inconclusive results, in part due to the use of procedures that do not take account of the peculiarities of reptilian behavior and physiology. Here I present a procedure suitable for testing spatial cognition that exploits a naturally evolved, ethologically relevant ability common to many lizards (i.e. refuge seeking behavior). The procedure requires lizards to learn the location of an open refuge inside a rectangular arena containing artificial refuges in every corner, using distal ex…
Visualization of Memory Map Information in Embedded System Design
2018
Data compression is a common requirement for displaying large amounts of information. The goal is to reduce visual clutter. The approach given in this paper uses an analysis of a data set to construct a visual representation. The visualization is compressed using the address ranges of the memory structure. This method produces a compressed version of the initial visualization, retaining the same information as the original. The presented method has been implemented as a Memory Designer tool for ASIC, FPGA and embedded systems using IP-XACT. The Memory Designer is a user-friendly tool for model based embedded system design, providing access and adjustment of the memory layout from a single v…
Convolutional Long Short-Term Memory Network for Multitemporal Cloud Detection Over Landmarks
2019
In this work, we propose to exploit both the temporal and spatial correlations in Earth observation satellite images through deep learning methods. In particular, the combination of a U-Net convolutional neural network together with a convolutional long short-term memory (LSTM) layer is proposed. This model is applied for cloud detection on MSG/SEVIRI image time series over selected landmarks. Implementation details are provided and our proposal is compared against a standard SVM and a U-Net without the convolutional LSTM layer but including temporal information too. Experimental results show that this combination of networks exploits both the spatial and temporal dependence and provides st…
Towards General Purpose Object Detection: Deep Dense Grid Based Object Detection
2020
Object detection is one of the most challenging and very important branch of computer vision. Some of the challenging aspect of a detection network is the fact that an object can appear anywhere in the image, be partially occluded by another object, might appear in crowd or have greatly varying scales. Consequently, we propose a fine grained and equally spaced dense grid cells throughout an input image be responsible of detecting an object. We re-purpose an already existing deep state-of-the-art detector or classifier into deep and dense detector. Our dense object detector uses binary class encoding and hence suitable for very large multi-class object detector. We also propose a more flexib…
A Novel Approach for Accelerating Bitstream Relocation in Many-core Partially Reconfigurable Applications
2013
International audience; Partial Bitstream Relocation (PBR) has been introduced in recent years, as a means to overcome the limitations of the traditional Xilinx Partial Reconfiguration flow, particularly in terms of the limited module placement, a fact that can greatly reduce the memory footprint of applications which require multiple implementations of the same module... However, PBR consumes scarce resources in hardware implementations, and introduces a prohibitive time overhead when done in software. This is particularly true in applications such as large scalable systems, which typically require multiple copies of the same module to accelerate a task, but in which the relocation time ov…
Cognitive Reasoning and Inferences through Psychologically based Personalised Modelling of Emotions Using Associative Classifiers
2014
The development of Microsoft Kinect opened up the research field of computational emotions to a wide range of applications, such as learning environments, which are excellent candidates to trial computational emotions based algorithms but were never feasible for given consumer technologies. Whilst Kinect is accessible and affordable technology it comes with its' own additional challenges such as the limited number of extracted Action Units (AUs). This paper presents a new approach that attempts at finding patterns of interaction between AUs and each other on one hand and patterns that link the related AUs to a given emotion. In doing so, this paper presents the ground work necessary to reac…
“Nos inventamos un mundo que no existía”. Una profesión de riesgo.
2019
Since the end of Franco's dictatorship, editorial censorship has been an object of interdisciplinary study that has been incorporating, to the initial analysis of the constitution and nature of censorship, the study of a variety of case studies that are resizing the phenomenon. On the one hand, in the context of memory studies, it is necessary to analyze what effects censorship had on the configuration of cultural memory. On the other hand, censorship has a considerable effect on publishing strategies, both in itself and because it fosters self-censorship and countercensorship. In particular, this article explores the work of women publishers who, in the Barcelona of the 1960s and 1970s, op…
Visual Cortex Performs a Sort of Non-linear ICA
2010
Here, the standard V1 cortex model optimized to reproduce image distortion psychophysics is shown to have nice statistical properties, e.g. approximate factorization of the PDF of natural images. These results confirm the efficient encoding hypothesis that aims to explain the organization of biological sensors by information theory arguments.
