Regulation of Plant Transporters by Lipids and Microdomains

Transporters in the broad sense, that is, carriers, pumps, and channels, are proteins inserted in a lipid bilayer separating two cellular compartments. This lipid bilayer is not only the physical support of such proteins, but also a powerful way to regulate their activity. This chapter will first summarize the different means by which lipids can regulate the activity of transmembrane proteins (including the physical properties of the bilayer, its dynamic lateral compartmentalization, and the presence of particular lipid species acting as cofactors). It will then illustrate these general rules with examples of such regulations found in plant literature and, as a reference, in animal studies.
The impact of attachment distress on affect-centered mentalization: An experimental study in psychosomatic patients and healthy adults

Introduction We investigated the impact of attachment distress on affect-centered mentalization in a clinical and a non-clinical sample, comparing mentalization in a baseline condition to mentalization under a condition of attachment distress. Methods The sample consisted of 127 adults who underwent inpatient psychosomatic treatment, and 34 mentally healthy adults. Alexithymia, characterized by deficits in the awareness and differentiation of emotional states, is hypothesized as underlying somatoform disorders. Mentalization as a construct investigated in cognitive psychology is defined as the ability to refer mental states of others in order to predict their behavior. Introduzione. L’attacco alla capacità di pensare è uno dei possibili effetti che possiamo osservare quando il corpo si ammala. Lo scopo di questo studio è esplorare la funzione simbolica in bambini con epilessia e cefalea. Metodi. Sono stati reclutati 75 piccoli pazienti della Clinica Neuropsichiatrica infantile dell’Università di Palermo - 48 maschi (61%) e 27 femmine (39%). Tutti soffrivano di epilessia (53 - 71%) e cefalea primaria (22 - 29%). La loro età variava dai 7 agli 11 anni (media: 9.4±1.2).
