Dyes That Bear Thiazolylazo Groups as Chromogenic Chemosensors for Metal Cations

A family of dyes (L 1-L 6) that contain a thiazolylazo group as signalling subunit and several macrocyclic cavities with different ring sizes and type and number of heteroatoms as binding sites has been synthesized and characterized. Solutions of L 1-L 6 in acetonitrile show broad and structureless absorption bands in the 554-577 nm range with typicalmolar absorption coefficients that range from 20000 to 32000 M -1 cm -1. A detailed protonation study was carried out with solutions of L 1, L 2 and L 5 in acetonitrile. Possible interferences of mercury sulfur compounds with ethylated and methylated mercury species using HPLC-ICP-MS

The HPLC-ICP-MS coupling technique is able to separate and detect methyl, ethyl and inorganic mercury isotopes specifically. An identification of ethyl mercury(+) is not possible when the widely used sodium tetraethylborate derivatisation method in combination with GC-AFS/AAS or ICP-MS techniques is performed because it contains ethyl groups.An unidentified compound with the same retention time as ethyl mercury was found in the HPLC chromatograms of industrial sewage samples and humic-rich soils of microcosm experiments after applying water vapour distillation. A multinjection strategy for mercury speciation.

Abstract A multiinjection strategy has been developed to increase the sampling throughput of the high-performance liquid chromatography determination of inorganic-mercury, methylmercury, ethylmercury and phenylmercury. The method involves the injection of samples each 3.5 min, in spite of the fact that phenylmercury retention time corresponds to 9.04 min. In the selected conditions, the sampling frequency was 11 h −1 in front of that of 6 h −1 , obtained by conventional injection of each sample after the complete elution of Hg species. A new selective fluorogenic probe for trivalent cations.

[EN] A new selective chromo-fluorogenic probe for Fe 3+, Cr 3+ and Al 3+ is reported. Detection limits are in the ¿M range and the fluorogenic sensing ability could be observed by the naked eye when illuminated with UV-light. Numerical study of the growth conditions in an MOCVD reactor: application to the epitaxial growth of HgTe

Abstract In order to analyse the epitaxial growth by metalorganic chemical vapour deposition (MOCVD) of mercury telluride, HgTe, a 2D numerical model has been developed to simulate the gas flow in a horizontal MOCVD reactor. This model takes into account the Navier–Stokes equations coupled with the heat transfer and mass transport of chemical species. One dimensional consolidation of Opalinus Clay from shallow depth

First experimental results on Opalinus Clay from shallow depth (< 30 m depth) are presented and compared to results on cores from Mont Terri Underground Rock Laboratory (~ 300 m depth). Samples were tested in one dimensional condition using an advanced experimental technique. The samples from the two sites show similar properties in terms of geotechnical characterization and one dimensional compressibility/swelling indexes, despite the different source depths.
