The Idiosincrancies of the European M&A Market

This paper provides a comprehensive descriptive analysis of the European market of mergers and acquisitions (MA 2) method of payment; 3) geographical scope; 4) target’s attitude; 5) bidders’ competition; 6) industry relatedness; 7) public status of the firms involved; and 8) acquirers’ ownership of targets before and after the transaction. Additionally, we identify the similarities and differences of this market with those of the dominant market worldwide, namely the US. Both markets show similar trends in their activity and the occurrence of waves concentrated around economic shocks. However, the European market notably exhibits higher levels of friendly and cash deals.

‘It's Not Like Everything Changes Just With a Click on New Year's Eve’ : Perceptions on Educational Issues of University Mergers in Finland

The study explored educational perceptions concerning Finnish university mergers. The data were collected by interviewing academics and students (n = 30) in four merger projects. Qualitative content analysis was applied to the data. First trap-assisted decay spectroscopy of the $$^{81}$$Ge ground state

AbstractThe $$\beta $$ β -delayed $$\gamma $$ γ spectroscopy of $$^{81}$$ 81 As has been performed using a purified beam of $$^{81}$$ 81 Ge $$(9/2^+)$$ ( 9 / 2 + ) ground state at the Ion Guide Isotope Separator On-Line facility (IGISOL). The $$^{81}$$ 81 Ge$$^+$$ + ions were produced using proton-induced fission of $$^{232}$$ 232 Th and selected with the double Penning trap JYFLTRAP for the post-trap decay spectroscopy measurements. The low-spin $$(1/2^+)$$ ( 1 / 2 + ) isomeric-state ions $$^{81m}\hbox {Ge}^+$$ 81 m Ge + were not observed in the fission products. How firm boundaries are drawn

While many studies exist regarding the firm choice to make vs. buy, there has been little study about the choice between make, buy or ally. In this paper we investigate how firms choose among make, buy or make together when they have to organize a particular transaction. In particular we develop theory-based hypothesis that link the theoretical determinants of firm’s boundaries to the governance choice. In order to test such hypothesis we operationalize the main constructs in measurable variables and we collect information for that. GW170817: Observation of Gravitational Waves from a Binary Neutron Star Inspiral

On August 17, 2017 at 12-41:04 UTC the Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo gravitational-wave detectors made their first observation of a binary neutron star inspiral. The signal, GW170817, was detected with a combined signal-to-noise ratio of 32.4 and a false-alarm-rate estimate of less than one per 8.0×104 years. We infer the component masses of the binary to be between 0.86 and 2.26 M, in agreement with masses of known neutron stars. Restricting the component spins to the range inferred in binary neutron stars, we find the component masses to be in the range 1.17-1.60 M, with the total mass of the system 2.74-0.01+0.04M.
