Semantic-based Merging of RSS Items
2009
Merging XML documents can be of key importance in several applications. For instance, merging the RSS news from same or different sources and providers can be beneficial for end-users in various scenarios. In this paper, we address this issue and explore the relatedness measure between RSS elements. We show here how to define and compute exclusive relations between any two elements and provide several predefined merging operators that can be extended and adapted to human needs. We also provide a set of experiments conducted to validate our approach. © Springer Science+Business Media, LLC 2009.
New hypothesis on the ploidy of the hybrid species Phytopthora alni subsp. alni
2012
EA MERS CT3 Affiche (+ résumé mais sans mention de C. Revellin sur le résumé (oubli de C. Husson)); Alder decline caused by the Phytophthora alni complex is one of the most important diseases in natural ecosystems in Europe in the last 20 years. The emergence of Phytophthora alni subsp. alni (Paa), the pathogen responsible for the epidemics, is linked to an interspecific hybridization event between two parental species: Phytophthora alni subsp. multiformis (Pam) and Phytophthora alni subsp. uniformis (Pau). One of these parental species, Pau that has been isolated in several European countries and in North America, specifically in Alaska and Oregon, is exotic to Europe and a diploid species…
Nouvelles perspectives du BIM
2021
Scheduling independent stochastic tasks under deadline and budget constraints
2018
This article discusses scheduling strategies for the problem of maximizing the expected number of tasks that can be executed on a cloud platform within a given budget and under a deadline constraint. The execution times of tasks follow independent and identically distributed probability laws. The main questions are how many processors to enroll and whether and when to interrupt tasks that have been executing for some time. We provide complexity results and an asymptotically optimal strategy for the problem instance with discrete probability distributions and without deadline. We extend the latter strategy for the general case with continuous distributions and a deadline and we design an ef…
Understanding the human behaviors in dynamic urban areas of interest
2020
International audience; The fast growth of urban populations across evolving cities is resulting in new types of technical, physical, material, and safety-related challenges and constraints (Chen et al. 2019). Humans perceive, move, and perform actions (called behaviors) in different urban areas, and make interactions with the objects, the other humans, and the environment for achieving their goals for attaining the desired level of satisfaction (Wagner et al., 2018; Chen et al., 2015). More formally, human behaviors are observable actions or reactions of humans in response to external or internal stimuli (Wagner et al., 2018; Hong et al., 2015; Yan et al., 2015). Over the last decade, huma…
Automated detection of contextuality proofs with intermediate numbers of observables

A Route toward Protein Sequencing using Solid-State Nanopores Assisted by Machine Learning
2022
Solid-State Nanopores made of 2-D materials such as MoS2 have emerged as one of the most versatile sensors for single-biomolecule detection, which is essential for early disease diagnosis (biomarker detection). One of the most promising applications of SSN is DNA and protein sequencing, at a low cost and faster than the current standard methods. The detection principle relies on measuring the relatively small variations of ionic current as charged biomolecules immersed in an electrolyte traverse the nanopore, in response to an external voltage applied across the membrane. The passage of a biomolecule through the pore yields information about its structure and chemical properties, as demonst…
Computer-assisted enumeration and classification of multi-qubit doilies
2022
For N ≥ 2, an N-qubit doily is a doily living in the N-qubit symplectic polar space. These doilies are related to operator-based proofs of quantum contextuality. Following and extending the strategy of [SdBHG21] that focused exclusively on three-qubit doilies, we first bring forth several formulas giving the number of both linear and quadratic doilies for any N > 2. Then we present an effective algorithm for the generation of all N-qubit doilies. Using this algorithm for N = 4 and N = 5, we provide a classification of N-qubit doilies in terms of types of observables they feature and number of negative lines they are endowed with.
In Situ, Airborne Instrumentation: Addressing and Solving Measurement Problems in Ice Clouds
2012
The workshop on in situ airborne instrumentation: addressing and solving measurement problems in ice clouds, June 25-27, 2010, Oregon, aimed to identify unresolved questions concerning ice formation and evolution in ice clouds, assess the current state of instrumentation that can address these problems, introduce emerging technology that may overcome current measurement issues, and recommend future courses of action to improve our understanding of ice cloud microphysical. Eleven presentations were made covering measurement challenges associated measuring the composition and concentration of all the modes of ice nuclei (IN), measuring the morphology, mass, surface, and optical properties of …
