Ginger and Turmeric Essential Oils for Weed Control and Food Crop Protection

Ginger and turmeric are two food ingredients that are in high demand due to their flavor and positive effects on health. The biological properties of these spices are closely related to the aromatic compounds they contain. The chemical compositions of their essential oils and their in vitro phytotoxic activity against weeds (Portulaca oleracea, Lolium multiflorum, Echinochloa crus-galli, Cortaderia selloana, and Nicotiana glauca) and food crops (tomato, cucumber, and rice) were studied. This paper takes into consideration Timberlake Wertenbaker's adaptation of Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend (2016) for the radio. In particular, the focus of the paper is on the first of the four radioplays and on the dramatic strategies used and adaptation choices made by Wertenbaker. We shall focus on the use of two main adult voices (Lena and Lila), the use of the voice over, and the representation of time. The chapter also considers the image of "neapolitanity" offered in the radioplay, the reception with the British audience with respect to the meridionist idea of Southern Italy as poor and violent. Strain hardening in liquid-particle suspensions

The behavior of a liquid-particle suspension induced to sheared motion was analyzed by numerical simulations. When the velocity (strain) of the suspension began to increase, its viscosity first stayed almost constant, but increased then rapidly to a clearly higher level. This increase in viscosity is shown to be related to formation of clusters of suspended particles. Clusters are shown to increase the viscosity by enhanced momentum transfer though clustered particles. This is the mechanism behind the strain-hardening phenomenon observed in small-strain experiments on liquid-particle suspensions.

A good and unique person passed away – a lawyer, an expert on historical monuments, a theoretician on securing works of art, a sensitive soul. His loss is irreparable.
