Lightnings are violent natural phenomena and can generate many expenditures, specially when they strike in urban areas. Measurement and Modeling of the Origins of Starvation in Congestion Controlled Mesh Networks

Significant progress has been made in understanding the behavior of TCP and congestion-controlled traffic over multi- hop wireless networks. Despite these advances, however, no prior work identified severe throughput imbalances in the basic scenario of mesh networks, in which one-hop flows contend with two-hop flows for gateway access. In this paper, we demonstrate via real network measurements, test-bed experiments, and an analytical model that starvation exists in such a scenario, i.e., the one-hop flow receives most of the bandwidth while the two- hop flow starves. In this paper, we propose an efficient way for constructing the wireless mesh structure associated with Molecular MAC, a multichannel MAC layer designed for efficient packet forwarding. An optimized path-selection using airtime metric in OLSR networks: Implementation and testing

Wireless mesh networks used for broadband access may be equipped with multiple Internet gateways. Using airtime metric as the main criterion for path selection is an effective method for achieving load-balancing in such a multi-homed mesh network. In this paper, we describe how the radio-aware path selection using airtime as a metric can be implemented in order to achieve this functionality, based on a modified version of an open source OLSR implementation. The paper presents both the principle of this method, its implementation and the empirical results which focus on testing the airtime metric functionality based on a deployed small-scale test network.

Wireless mesh networks are difficult to be characterized, especially under multi-hop traffic streams. The problem is that the local view of the channel and the correlation between the buffers of consecutive nodes in a stream path make complicated the identification of the contention level perceived by each station along the time. Experimental characterization and mitigation of turbulence induced signal fades within an ad hoc FSO network

Optical beams propagating through the turbulent atmospheric channel suffer from both the attenuation and phase distortion. Since future wireless networks are envisaged to be deployed in the ad hoc mesh topology, this paper presents the experimental laboratory characterization of mitigation of turbulence induced signal fades for two ad hoc scenarios. Dynamics-based assessment of nanoscopic polymer-network mesh structures and their defects.

Polymer-network gels often exhibit complex nanoscopic architectures. First, the polymer-network mesh topology on scales of 1–10 nm is usually not uniform and regular, but disordered and irregular. Second, on top of that, many swollen polymer networks display spatial inhomogeneity of their polymer segmental density and crosslinking density on scales of 10–100 nm. This multi-scale structural complexity affects the permeability, mechanical strength, and optical clarity of the polymer gels, which is of central relevance for their performance in popular applications.
