Differential studies of inclusive J/ψ and ψ(2S) production at forward rapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

2016

The production of J/ψ and ψ(2S) was studied with the ALICE detector in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC. The measurement was performed at forward rapidity (2.5 < y < 4) down to zero transverse momentum (pt) in the dimuon decay channel. Inclusive J/ψ yields were extracted in different centrality classes and the centrality dependence of the average pt is presented. The J/ψ suppression, quantified with the nuclear modification factor (RAA), was measured as a function of centrality, transverse momentum and rapidity. Comparisons with similar measurements at lower collision energy and theoretical models indicate that the J/ψ production is the result of an interplay between color screening and recombin…

eta - eta' - glueball mixing

2010

We have revisited glueball mixing with the pseudoscalar mesons in the MIT bag model scheme. The calculation has been performed in the spherical cavity approximation to the bag using two different fermion propagators, the cavity and the free propagators. We obtain a very small probability of mixing for the eta at the level of $0.04-0.1% and a bigger for the eta' at the level of 4-12%. Our results differ from previous calculations in the same scheme but seem to agree with the experimental analysis. We discuss the origin of our difference which stems from the treatment of our time integrations.

Measurement of CP asymmetry in D 0 → K - K + and D 0 → π - πdecays

2014

Time-integrated $CP$ asymmetries in $D^0$ decays to the final states $K^- K^+$ and $\pi^- \pi^+$ are measured using proton-proton collisions corresponding to $3\mathrm{\,fb}^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity collected at centre-of-mass energies of $7\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}$ and $8\mathrm{\,Te\kern -0.1em V}$. The $D^0$ mesons are produced in semileptonic $b$-hadron decays, where the charge of the accompanying muon is used to determine the initial flavour of the charm meson. The difference in $CP$ asymmetries between the two final states is measured to be \begin{align} \Delta A_{CP} = A_{CP}(K^-K^+)-A_{CP}(\pi^-\pi^+) = (+0.14 \pm 0.16\mathrm{\,(stat)} \pm 0.08\mathrm{\,(syst)})\% \ . \nonu…

Multiquark description of the D-sJ(2860) and D-sJ(2700)

2009

Within a theoretical framework that accounts for all open-charm mesons, including the D-0*(2308), the D-sJ*(2317), and the D-sJ(2460), we analyze the structure and explore possible quantum number assignments for the D-sJ(2860) and the D-sJ(2700) mesons reported by BABAR and Belle Collaborations. The open-charm sector is properly described if considered as a combination of conventional quark-antiquark states and four-quark components. All negative parity and 2(+) states can be understood in terms only of q (q) over bar components, however the description of the 0(+) and 1(+) mesons is improved whenever the mixing between two- and four-quark configurations is included. We analyze all possible…

Two-particle correlations in pp, (p)over-bar(p)over-bar and (KSKS0)-K-0 pairs from hadronic Z decays

2005

Two-particle correlations in pp, and pairs have been studied in hadronic Z decays recorded at LEP with the ALEPH detector. The correlations were measured as a function of the four-momentum difference Q of the pair. For pp, pairs a depletion of events is observed in the region , and for pairs an enhancement of events is observed in the region . These features are consistent with expectations from Fermi–Dirac and Bose–Einstein statistics, respectively.

Coherent ψ(2S) photo-production in ultra-peripheral Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN=2.76 TeV

2015

We have performed the first measurement of the coherent ψ(2S) photo-production cross section in ultraperipheral Pb–Pb collisions at the LHC. This charmonium excited state is reconstructed via the ψ(2S) → l +l − and ψ(2S) → J/ψπ+π− decays, where the J/ψ decays into two leptons. The analysis is based on an event sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of about 22 μb−1. The cross section for coherent ψ(2S) production in the rapidity interval −0.9 < y < 0.9 is dσcoh ψ(2S)/dy = 0.83±0.19 stat+syst mb. The ψ(2S) to J/ψ coherent cross section ratio is 0.34+0.08 −0.07(stat + syst). The obtained results are compared to predictions from theoretical models. peerReviewed

Production of a forward J/ψ and a backward jet at LHC

2016

We study the production at the LHC of a forward J/ψ meson and a backward jet with a large rapidity separation using the BFKL formalism. We give predictions for both the Non Relativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach to charmonium production and the Color Evaporation Model. In NRQCD, we find that the 3S18 part of the onium wavefunction is completely dominating the process, which makes the presented study a good probe for this color octet contribution. peerReviewed

Forward J/ψ production at high energy: Centrality dependence and mean transverse momentum

2016

Forward rapidity J=ψ meson production in proton-nucleus collisions can be an important constraint of descriptions of the small-x nuclear wave function. In an earlier work we studied this process using a dipole cross section satisfying the Balitsky-Kovchegov equation, fit to HERA inclusive data and consistently extrapolated to the nuclear case using a standard Woods-Saxon distribution. In this paper we present further calculations of these cross sections, studying the mean transverse momentum of the meson and the dependence on collision centrality. We also extend the calculation to backward rapidities using nuclear parton distribution functions. We show that the parametrization is overall ra…
