W niniejszym artykule podjęta została próba przedstawienia konceptualizacji abstrakcyjnych i złożonych zjawisk gospodarczych jako choroby/ witalności w polskim i niemieckim dyskursie prasowym. Kontrastywna eksplikacja zawartości znaczeniowej wybranych modeli metaforycznych, ukazanie ukrytej w nich intencji komunikatywnej jak również obrazu rzeczywistości oraz porównanie wyodrębnionych metafor na płaszczyźnie funkcyjnej i formalnej stanowiła istotny cel niniejszej pracy.

W niniejszym artykule podjęta została próba przedstawienia i analizy specyficznej kulturowo, metaforycznej konstrukcji rzeczywistości w polskim i niemieckim dyskursie prasowym umiejscowionym wokół tematyki Brexitu. Kontrastywna eksplikacja zawartości znaczeniowej wybranych dominujących modeli metaforycznych, ukazanie ukrytej w nich intencji komunikatywnej jak również obrazu rzeczywistości oraz porównanie wyodrębnionych metafor na płaszczyźnie funkcyjnej i formalnej stanowiła istotny cel niniejszej pracy.

Biological systems often offer solutions to difficult problems which are not only original but also efficient. Connectionist models have been inspired by neural systems and successfully applied to the formulation of algorithms for solving complex problems such as the travelling salesman problem. In this paper we extend the connectionist metaphor to include an ethological account of how problems similar to the travelling salesman problem are solved by real living systems. It is also an important indicator for language program managers to perceive the teaching and learning process. Etymology and conceptual metaphor; the case of 'in vain' in Greek and Latin

The two Greek adverbs for 'in vain' have sill no good etymology above all because it is difficult to determine tje exact meaning of the connected roots. Yje Author takes into consideration the etymology proposed on the ground of phonetic laws and explains the meaning of the connected roots postulating a conceptual metaphor which is clear also in Latin and in Late Latin. The metaphor, grounded on the concept of a movement that is denied de facto, stremgthens the etymological conjectures.
Differentiating among pragmatic uses of words through timed sensicality judgments

Pragmatic and cognitive accounts of figurative language posit a difference between metaphor and metonymy in terms of underlying conceptual operations. Recently, other pragmatic uses of words have been accounted for in the Relevance Theory framework, such as approximation, described in terms of conceptual adjustment that varies in degree and direction with respect to the case of metaphor. Despite the theoretical distinctions, there is very poor experimental evidence addressing the metaphor/metonymy distinction, and none concerning approximation. The aim of the study is to explore situational, cultural and pragmatic factors that might trigger code-switching during informal conversations outside of the classroom at school among bilingual adolescents in Haparanda, Helsinki and Stockholm. An attempt is made to clarify different functions of code-switching, i.e. why bilingual adolescents code-switch from Swedish to Finnish and vice versa. The conversational data, consisting of video-recorded group and pair conversations, was collected in 2014–2015 at six junior high schools in Haparanda, Helsinki and Stockholm. The rationale behind this work lies in the current economic, political, and social turmoil and the crisis of modern democracies. Adopting a Cognitive Linguistics standpoint, the paper looks at metaphorical instantiations of nationalistic issues in the British and Italian Fascist press of the 1930s. More particularly, it explores what metaphors are employed in English and Italian to convey the notion of “totality” implied in the theory of totalitarianism. Furthermore, it investigates how metaphors contribute to the legitimation of inclusion and exclusion strategies which are at the basis of nationalism. Emuārs kā žanrs parādījās 2000.gadu sākumā un kopš tā laika ir izveidojušies dažādi emuāra veidi. Empīriskie dati ir ekscerpēti no modes emuāra The Blonde Salad. Pētījums ir izstrādāts, lai atbildētu uz pētījuma jautājumu - kāda metaforu funkcija dominē emuārā The Blonde Salad. The article falls within the current of linguistic research on religious language, specifically on the language of Polish Catholicism. The paper is divided into two parts.
