La materia costituisce un problema di ordine metafisico. E però essa fa problema alla metafisica, mette in imbarazzo il filosofo, anzitutto saggiandone il metodo, l'approccio e la tenuta. La materia sfugge per definizione alla presa del concetto e del linguaggio sebbene, considerata in se stessa, ovvero eletta a tema specifico di una ricerca che ne indaghi la natura in quanto tale, essa non sia che un concetto, così che nella materia appare dissolversi il limite tra ciò che è massimamente tangibile e ciò che è semplicemente pensabile.

This paper investigates the balance of hedonic and utilitarian values in information systems (IS). More specifically, we are interested in the continuum of such values in IS use. The paper reviews a set of literature to investigate the differences of hedonic and utilitarian IS and the role of hedonism in them. Furthermore, we define hedonic and utilitarian values in this context. We propose that the balance between hedonic and utilitarian values varies depending on the nature of the IS, and we present a conceptual model of hedonic and utilitarian values in IS use. Defining Life as a Non-Essentialist Natural Kind

Abstract: The increasing number of proposals to define the concept of life in biology has led some authors to consider this task useless and without sense. All sceptics base their argument on the idea that life is a natural kind with a strong metaphysical commitment. Considering this, the aim of this paper is to explore the concept of life as a non-essentialist natural kind. It is intended to highlight that complex scientific concepts are better understood from points of view that are not constrained by the rigid frameworks of essentialism and the realism/conventionalism dichotomy.  Keywords: natural kind, definition of life, essentialism, operational definitions.

Plant Morphology: The Historic Concepts of Wilhelm Troll, Walter Zimmermann and Agnes Arber

Recent molecular systematic and developmental genetic findings have drawn attention to plant morphology as a discipline dealing with the phenotypic appearance of plant forms. However, since different terms and conceptual frameworks have evolved over a period of more than 200 years, it is reasonable to survey the history of plant morphology; this is the first of two papers with this aim.
