This article reviews actual advances in the development and application of three-dimensional (3-D) cell culture systems. Recent therapeutically oriented studies include characterization of multicellular-mediated drug resistance, novel ways of quantifying hypoxia, and new approaches to more efficient immunotherapy. Metastasio wrote a limited number of sonnets, and in various letters expressed deep perplexities about the value and the efficacy of this poetic form. A recent edition of his “Poesie”, edited by Rosa Necchi in 2009, offers the twenty-nine texts approved by the author as well as six more ones discovered from the end of the Eighteenth Century up to recent times. The article adds to this corpus two forgotten sonnets included in epithalamic anthologies printed in Naples in 1717 and in Rome in 1722 respectively, and illustrates their unexpected subsequent re-uses.
Characterization of the metastatic properties of two methylcholantrene-induced fibrosarcoma in mice

MC1 and MC2 murine fibrosarcomas, following intramuscular innplantation in mice, release different numbers of tumor cells into the bloodstream and differ in their lung colonization potential following intravenous inoculation. Since these biological properties could be related to a different degree of maligancy, in vivo and in vitro experiments were performed vvith these two tunnors in an attempt to correlate their spontaneous metas-tatic potential with other parameters related to tunnor cell invasion and metastasis. The stability of foundations soils could represent a clear and present threat for the conservation of even well preserved buildings, particularly for Architectural heritage conservation and land art heritage. A dramatic case is the presence of collapsible metastable sands as foundation soils, as it occurs in the sacral complex Valle dei Templi in Agrigento. This site listed by UNESCO, stands on a crest of a calcarenite cuesta, overlaying a layer of these sands. When the collapsible sand is dry, the structure is strong enough to bond the sand particles together. Objective In response to antigenic stimulation, naive MHC-class I restricted and antigen-specific CD8+CD45RA+CD28+T-cells undergo clonal expansion and differentiate into CD8+CD45RO+ memory T-cells. Upon re- encounter with the nominal antigen, CD45RO+ T-cells are able to convert to CD8+CD45RA+CD28-T-cells displaying potent immune effector functions, including TNF-alpha production.
