Metastable memristive lines for signal transmission and information processing applications

2016

Traditional studies of memristive devices have mainly focused on their applications in nonvolatile information storage and information processing. Here, we demonstrate that the third fundamental component of information technologies-the transfer of information-can also be employed with memristive devices. For this purpose, we introduce a metastable memristive circuit. Combining metastable memristive circuits into a line, one obtains an architecture capable of transferring a signal edge from one space location to another. We emphasize that the suggested metastable memristive lines employ only resistive circuit components. Moreover, their networks (for example, Y-connected lines) have an info…

Sulle tracce di Oranzebe. «L’opera seria» di Calzabigi e Gassmann (Vienna, 1769)

2016

“L’opera seria” by Ranieri Calzabigi and Florian Leopold Gassmann, performed for the first time in Vienna in 1769, is one of the most fascinating and complex meta-operas of the eighteenth century. As many similar works, it satirizes the eccentric figures involved in any theatrical production (poet, composer, impresario, singers, dancers and so on). The dramaturgical construction meticolously planned by Calzabigi includes two different layers: the comic action actually staged, and the serious opera “L’Oranzebe”, which is imagined to be reharsed and later performed by the characters of the comedy. The continuous exchange between these two dimensions is the main object of the article. By colle…

Apatite and clinopyroxene as tracers for metasomatic processes in nepheline clinopyroxenites of Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes in the Ural Mountains,…

2013

Clinopyroxene and apatite are found to trace metasomatic processes in nepheline-bearing clinopyroxenites (tilaites) from the igneous, mafic-ultramafic Uralian-Alaskan-type complexes of Kytlym and Nizhny Tagil, Ural Mountains, Russian Federation. The clinopyroxenites consist predominantly of coarse-grained, partially to totally altered clinopyroxene phenocrysts in a matrix of fine-grained olivine, clinopyroxene, plagioclase, K-feldspar, and nepheline. Apatite occurs as idiomorphic inclusions (2O-, Na2O-, and Al2O3-bearing fluid. During conversion of the plagioclase, CaO and SiO2 were partitioned into the fluid. Altered areas in the clinopyroxene phenocrysts are characterized by the redistrib…

A preliminary framework for differentiating the paradigms of human-technology interaction research

2010

The purpose of this paper is to clarify the differences between approaches in the research field of human-technology interaction. We are especially interested in individuating user psychology from the more traditional paradigms. Therefore, we suggest a preliminary theoretical framework of criteria for distinguishing and individuating the different interaction research paradigms. The framework consists of five dimensions in which the paradigms may vary from each other. In this paper, we also discuss how ubiquitous computing is related to some of the dimensions. In addition, we focus on defining the new elements user psychology can bring to the discussion and analysis of human-technology inte…

Metastable ion studies. 4—mass spectral fragmentation and isomerization in the esters of chlorinated propenoic acids

1983

Metastable peaks have been used to study the fragmentation pathways of the methyl and trideuteriomethyl chloropropenoates and chloromethyl propenoate. The molecular ion peaks of the unsaturated esters are more intense than those of the saturated esters, α-Cleavage, [MOCH3]+, produces the base peak in almost all compounds, the relative abundances of the additional peaks being low for chloromethyl propenoate. The losses of H2O, CH3. and COOH. indicate the isomerization of some ionized chloro esters to the chlorinated 2-butenoic acid molecular ions. An intense loss of H2O observed for methyl 2-chloropropenoate indicates its most facile isomerization, [ester]+˙ → [acid]+˙, whereas the isomeriza…

Nuclear hyperpolarization of 3He by magnetized plasmas

2018

International audience; We describe a method, referred to as PAMP (polarization of atoms in a magnetized plasma), that allowshyperpolarization of 3He nuclear spins at high magnetic field solely by excitation of a rf gas discharge.A magnetized plasma is obtained when the mean free path of the free electrons is much larger than theirgyration radius in the rf gas discharge. Investigations of PAMP are carried out in the 1–15-mbar pressure rangewith rf excitation around 100 MHz. Quantitative NMR measurements at 4.7 T and room temperature showthat, for different cell sizes and gas densities, 3He nuclear polarizations in the 1 to 9% range are achieved(i.e., larger than the Boltzmann equilibrium sp…

The composition of fluids stored in the central Mexican lithospheric mantle: Inferences from noble gases and CO2 in mantle xenoliths

2021

We present the first isotopic (noble gases and CO2) characterization of fluid inclusions coupled to Raman microspectroscopy analyses in mantle xenoliths from Central Mexico, a geodynamically complex area where the Basin and Range extension was superimposed on the Farallon subduction (terminated at 28 Ma). To characterize the isotopic signature of the Central Mexican lithospheric mantle, we focus on fluid inclusions entrapped in mantle xenoliths found in deposits of the Joya Honda maar (JH), a Quaternary monogenetic volcano belonging to the Ventura Espiritu Santo Volcanic Field (VESVF) in the state of San Luis Potosí (central Mexico). Thirteen ultramafic plagioclase-free xenoliths were selec…

Consensus report from the 9th International Forum for Liver Magnetic Resonance Imaging: applications of gadoxetic acid-enhanced imaging

2021

Abstract Objectives The 9th International Forum for Liver Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) was held in Singapore in September 2019, bringing together radiologists and allied specialists to discuss the latest developments in and formulate consensus statements for liver MRI, including the applications of gadoxetic acid–enhanced imaging. Methods As at previous Liver Forums, the meeting was held over 2 days. Presentations by the faculty on days 1 and 2 and breakout group discussions on day 1 were followed by delegate voting on consensus statements presented on day 2. Presentations and discussions centered on two main meeting themes relating to the use of gadoxetic acid–enhanced MRI in primary l…

Non-muscle myosin II as a predictive factor in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

2018

Background The present study attempted to provide information regarding non-muscle myosin II (MII) isoforms immunoreactivity in patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) and analysis of the patients’ clinical status after 5 years of monitoring. Material and Methods A semiquantitative analysis of the immunoreactivity of the MII isoforms was performed in 54 surgical specimens and its correlation with clinical and pathological variables and prognosis was verified. Data were analyzed using chi-square, Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. To evaluate the survival over the total monitoring time and any connection with the proteins studied, the Kaplan-Meier analysis was used. P…
