Regulatory Functions of MicroRNAs in Cancer Pathogenesis
2021
Abstract- MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a large family of evolutionary conserved small non-coding RNA molecules that firstly discovered in 1993. They regulate gene expression of about 50% of protein-coding genes at the post-transcriptional level. MiRNAs can target numerous messenger RNAs and subsequent misexpression of them can affect many different signaling pathways. They are playing a pivotal role in cancer development by regulation of the genes expression which involved in the proliferation, survival, differentiation, apoptosis or metastasis of the cancer cells. Several treatment approaches such as inhibition of oncomiRs and restoration of tumor suppressor miRNAs have been established in certa…
The oral KIF11 inhibitor 4SC‐205 exhibits antitumor activity and potentiates standard and targeted therapies in primary and metastatic neuroblastoma …

Unusual case of dorsal vertebral metastases from a male breast cancer
2017
Introduction: Breast cancer is a malignant neoplasm arising from mammary glands and is a rare entity in the male patient. Spine is a common site for skeletal metastases. Case presentation: A 53-years-old male was admitted to our Neurosurgical unit because of an untreatable dorsal pain. He had been treated 3 years before for breast cancer. A dorsal Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) evidenced pathological masses at T8 level. A total body Computed Tomography (CT) scan revealed lungs and liver metastases. After a multidisciplinary consult, a posterior T8 decompression, a radiofrequency thermoablation in T8 vertebral body followed by screws and rods fixation (T7-T9) was performed. Post-operative …
Petrogenesis of Mediterranean lamproites and associated rocks: The role of overprinted metasomatic events in the post-collisional lithospheric upper …
2021
High-MgO lamproite and lamproite-like (i.e. lamprophyric) ultrapotassic rocks are recurrent in the Mediterranean and surrounding regions. They are associated in space and time with ultrapotassic shoshonites and high-K calc-alkaline rocks. This magmatism is linked with the geodynamic evolution of the westernmost sector of the Alpine-Himalayan collisional margin, which followed the closure of the Tethys Ocean. Subduction-related lamproites, lamprophyres, shoshonites and high-K calc-alkaline suites were emplaced in the Mediterranean region in the form of shallow level intrusions (e.g. plugs, dykes and laccoliths) and small volume lava flows, with very subordinate pyroclastic rocks, starting fr…
Behandlung eines extraneural metastasierten Medulloblastoms
1990
We report a patient with a history of a previously treated medulloblastoma, now presenting with generalized osseous metastases. Currently there is a complete remission under continuous therapy with VP-16. Since the frequency of systemic metastases in patients with medulloblastoma is approximately 5%, we recommend a more extensive initial evaluation in these patients.
MBCL-07. NON-METASTATIC MEDULLOBLASTOMA OF EARLY CHILDHOOD: RESULTS FROM THE PROSPECTIVE CLINICAL TRIAL HIT-2000 AND AN EXTENDED VALIDATION COHORT
2020
Abstract OBJECTIVE To avoid craniospinal irradiation (CSI) in children younger than four years with non-metastatic medulloblastoma by chemotherapy, intraventricular methotrexate and risk-adapted local radiotherapy. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eighty-seven patients received systemic chemotherapy and intraventricular methotrexate. Until 2006, CSI was reserved for non-response or progression. After 2006, local radiotherapy was introduced for non-responders or classic (CMB), anaplastic or large-cell medulloblastoma (LCA). Infantile SHH-activated medulloblastomas (SHH_INF) were subdivided by DNA-methylation profiling. Survival in SHH_INF subtypes were also assessed in a validation cohort (n=71). RESULT…
Differential modulation and prognostic values of immune-escape genes in uveal melanoma
2019
Uveal melanoma (UM) is the most common primary intraocular cancer in adults. In the present study, we aimed to characterize the immunological features of primary UM cancer and to provide an association with prognostic markers and outcome. Also, we assessed the influence of the microenvironment on the expression of inhibitory immune checkpoints in UM. Genes of interest included MHC Class I and Class II molecules, as well as inhibitory immune-checkpoints, i.e. PDL1, PDL2, B7-H3, B7-H4, TBFRSF6B, CD47, CD155, GAL9, HVEM and CD200. We observed significant lower levels of MHC genes in UM cells as compared to normal uveal melanocytes. Unexpectedly however, the expression levels of most of the ana…
Characterization of Human γδ T Lymphocytes Infiltrating Primary Malignant Melanomas
2012
T lymphocytes are often induced naturally in melanoma patients and infiltrate tumors. Given that gamma delta T cells mediate antigen-specific killing of tumor cells, we studied the representation and the in vitro cytokine production and cytotoxic activity of tumor infiltrating gamma delta T cells from 74 patients with primary melanoma. We found that gamma delta T cells represent the major lymphocyte population infiltrating melanoma, and both V delta 1(+) and V delta 2(+) cells are involved. The majority of melanoma-infiltrating gamma delta cells showed effector memory and terminally-differentiated phenotypes and, accordingly, polyclonal gamma delta T cell lines obtained from tumor-infiltrat…
Combination chemotherapy with mitomycin C, vindesine and melphalan for refractory metastatic breast cancer.
1991
A combination of mitomycin C, vindesine and melphalan was administered to 33 patients with heavily pretreated refractory breast cancer. The overall response rate was 27% with a mean duration of more than 10.2 months. A stabilization with a mean duration of 5.1 months was seen in 56% of cases, while 20% of patients progressed. Gastrointestinal toxicity, mostly grade 1 or 2 nausea/vomiting was seen in 85% of cases, grade 1 or 2 leukopenia in 60% of patients, and grade 1 or 2 thrombocytopenia in 42%. Considering the good compliance of this regimen and the poor prognosis of patients with refractory advanced breast cancer, this combination can be useful as a palliative treatment of breast carcin…
Metastability and Relaxation in Quantum and Mesoscopic Systems
2013
The transient dynamics and the relaxation of three quantum and mesoscopic systems are investigated. In particular we analyze: (i) a long Josephson junction (LJJ) driven by a non-Gaussian Lévy noise current; (ii) a metastable quantum dissipative system driven by an external periodical driving; and (iii) the electron spin relaxation process in n-type GaAs crystals driven by a fluctuating electric field. Specifically, in the first system the LJJ phase evolution is described by the perturbed sine-Gordon equation. We find the noise enhanced stability and resonant activation phenomena, by investigating the mean escape time as a function of the bias current frequency, noise intensity and length of…
