Diagnostics of Helium-Argon Arc Discharge Plasma Based on Spectral Line Shape Measurements

1999

Electron densities and ion (gas) temperatures on the axis of an arc discharge plasma, produced at atmospheric pressure in a gas mixture of 95% helium and 5% argon, are determined at two arc currents. The evaluation of both main plasma parameters is based on line shape measurements, the ion temperature on the Doppler broadening of selected ArII lines, while the electron density on the Stark broadening of the hydrogen Hp line which appear in the spectrum due to hydrogen traces in the applied gases. The significance of reliable plasma diagnostics for determination of atomic structure data is discussed.

Synthesis and structural and ionic conductivity studies of Na2ZrSi4O11

1996

The compound Na 2 ZrSi 4 O 1 1 has been prepared both by solid state synthesis and by the sol-gel technique via alkoxides. The structure of Na 2 ZrSi 4 O 11 was investigated by the Rietveld method using X-ray diffractometer data. The powder diffraction data show evidence for a triclinic distortion of the basic monoclinic structure. The ionic conductivity has been determined in the temperature interval 130-560°C using a.c. impedance measurements. The Na + ion mobility is limited, with E a =1.04 eV and σ(300°C)= 2-9 10 7 S/cm. Samples with Ta partially substituted for Zr, according to the formula Na 2-x (Zr 1-x Ta x )Si 4 O 11 with x ≤0.2, showed the same evidence for a triclinic distortion. …

Effect of Zr4+Doping on the Electrical Properties of BaTiO3Ceramics

2011

The BaZrxTi1-xO3 for 0⩽x⩽15 ceramics were prepared by a conventional solid state reaction method and were determined by an X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for crystallographic, surface morphological and compositional studies. A single phase with perovskite structure was identified in the samples at room temperature. No significant impurities were detected in an EDS spectrum and the samples are in good stoichiometric ratio. The temperature dependence of electric conductivity was evaluated in the temperature range from 300 to 550 K for a selected frequency by a HP4284 LCR meter. The activation energy was calculated from the Arrhenius plots.

Floral volatiles in a sapromyiophilous plant and their importance in attracting house fly pollinators

2015

Floral scent in sapromyiophilous plants often consists of complex blends with not only fetid (e.g., sulfides) but also sweet (e.g., terpenoids) volatile organic compounds and a recent study suggests that both groups of compounds are involved in pollinator attraction. However, little is known about the number and identity of compounds involved in pollinator attraction in these deceptive plants that mimic breeding sites of fly pollinators. In the present paper, we studied flower volatiles of sapromyiophilous Periploca laevigata and their capability to elicit biological responses in one of the pollinator species, Musca domestica. Floral volatiles were collected by dynamic headspace and analyse…

Wronskian Addition Formula and Darboux-Pöschl-Teller Potentials

2013

For the famous Darboux-Pöschl-Teller equation, we present new wronskian representation both for the potential and the related eigenfunctions. The simplest application of this new formula is the explicit description of dynamics of the DPT potentials and the action of the KdV hierarchy. The key point of the proof is some evaluation formulas for special wronskian determinant.

Prediction of surface treatment effects on the tribological performance of tool steels using artificial neural networks

2019

The present paper discussed the development of a reliable and robust artificial neural network (ANN) capable of predicting the tribological performance of three highly alloyed tool steel grades. Experimental results were obtained by performing plane-contact sliding tests under non-lubrication conditions on a pin-on-disk tribometer. The specimens were tested both in untreated state with different hardening levels, and after surface treatment of nitrocarburizing. We concluded that wear maps via ANN modeling were a user-friendly approach for the presentation of wear-related information, since they easily permitted the determination of areas under steady-state wear that were appropriate for use…

Analyzing the Correlation of Classical and Community-aware Centrality Measures in Complex Networks

2021

International audience; Identifying influential nodes in social networks is a fundamental issue. Indeed, it has many applications, such as inhibiting epidemic spreading, accelerating information diffusion, preventing terrorist attacks, and much more. Classically, centrality measures quantify the node's importance based on various topological properties of the network, such as Degree and Betweenness. Nonetheless, these measures are agnostic of the community structure, although it is a ubiquitous characteristic encountered in many real-world networks. To overcome this drawback, there is a growing trend to design so-called community-aware centrality measures. Although several works investigate…

The clustering of galaxies in the SDSS-III Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey: Baryon Acoustic Oscillations in the Data Release 10 and 11 galaxy…

2014

We present a one per cent measurement of the cosmic distance scale from the detections of the baryon acoustic oscillations in the clustering of galaxies from the Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (BOSS), which is part of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey III (SDSS-III). Our results come from the Data Release 11 (DR11) sample, containing nearly one million galaxies and covering approximately $8\,500$ square degrees and the redshift range $0.2<z<0.7$. We also compare these results with those from the publicly released DR9 and DR10 samples. Assuming a concordance $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model, the DR11 sample covers a volume of 13\,Gpc${}^3$ and is the largest region of the Universe ever su…

Cosmological bounds on neutrino statistics

2018

We consider the phenomenological implications of the violation of the Pauli exclusion principle for neutrinos, focusing on cosmological observables such as the spectrum of Cosmic Microwave Background anisotropies, Baryon Acoustic Oscillations and the primordial abundances of light elements. Neutrinos that behave (at least partly) as bosonic particles have a modified equilibrium distribution function that implies a different influence on the evolution of the Universe that, in the case of massive neutrinos, can not be simply parametrized by a change in the effective number of neutrinos. Our results show that, despite the precision of the available cosmological data, only very weak bounds can …
