Betacyanins as phenol antioxidants. Chemistry and mechanistic aspects of the lipoperoxyl radical-scavenging activity in solution and liposomes.

2009

Reaction kinetics of betanin and its aglycone betanidin towards peroxyl radicals generated from the azo-initiated oxidation of methyl linoleate in methanol, and of a heterogeneous aqueous/soybean phosphatidylcholine liposomal system, were studied by monitoring formation of linoleic acid hydroperoxides and consumption of the pigments. Betanin was a weak retarder in methanol, and an effective chain breaking antioxidant in the liposomal model, indicating that kinetic solvent effects and partition in lipid bilayers may affect its activity. Betanidin behaved as a chain terminating antioxidant in both models. Kinetic parameters characterizing peroxyl radical-scavenging activity showed that betani…

( n ‐Bu 2 Sn) 2 O(CO 3 ): An active, robust and recyclable organotin(IV) for the direct synthesis of linear organic carbonates from carbon dioxide an…

2017

Organotin(IV) compounds are known to promote the direct synthesis of organic carbonates from carbon dioxide and alcohols. In the past, structural studies have highlighted that the carbonato moiety is a recurring ligand of tin species collected during CO2 pressurized reactions. In a mimetic approach and in order to achieve an available and recyclable precursor, the title compound (n-Bu2Sn)2O(CO3) (1) was prepared in a single step by reacting commercial di-n-butyltin dichloride with an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate. Compound 1 was characterized using infrared spectroscopy and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. Multinuclear NMR investigations in solution were also conducted. Comp…

Induced-Fit Molecular Recognition with Water-Soluble Cavitands

2000

Synthesis of novel water-soluble cavitands 1 and 2 and their complexes—the caviplexes—is described. The solubility in water derives from four primary ammonium groups on the lower rim and eight secondary amide groups on the upper rim. Cavitands 1 and 2 exist as D2d velcraplex dimers in aqueous solution but the addition of lipophilic guests 15–24 induces conformational changes to the vase-like structures. The internal cavity dimensions are 8×10 A, and the exchange rates of guests in the caviplexes are slow on the NMR timescale (room temperature and 600 MHz). The direct observation of bound species and the stoichiometry of the complexes is reported. The association constants (Ka) between 0.4×1…

On Pathways for Small Molecules Into and Out of Human Hair Fibers

1996

This paper represents an experimental approach of histology of the human hair fiber in dyeing and diffusion phenomena and its contribution to the interpretation of hair analysis results for drug abuse. Rhodamine B was applied to human hair fibers from either aqueous solution or methanol/ethanol solvent. The experiments were performed on natural hair of different ethnic groups as well as on extensively bleached hair strands. The microscopical study of the pathway of diffusion of rhodamine B into the hair fibers indicated that the reagent had entered the unmodified fibers at the scale edges between the cuticle cells. At the beginning of the diffusion process intercellular diffusion was the pr…

A convenient route for the preparation of the monohydride catalyst trans-[RuCl(H)(dppe)2] (dppe=Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2): improved synthesis and crystal struc…

2013

Abstract A novel and improved room temperature synthesis of the monohydride catalyst trans-[RuCl(H)(dppe)2] complex (1, dppe (1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane) = Ph2PCH2CH2PPh2) proceeds through oxidation of methanol (the solvent) by the pentacoordinated cis-[RuCl(dppe)2][PF6] complex and t-BuOK as the base is described. Compound 1 was fully characterized by NMR (1H, 13C, 31P), ESI-MS(TOF +), FTIR and elemental analysis. The X-ray structure of 1 was reported for the first time and unambiguously confirms the trans-configuration of the complex.

ChemInform Abstract: Heterocyclic Photorearrangements. Photochemical Behaviour of Some 3,5-Disubstituted 1,2,4-Oxadiazoles in Methanol at 254 nm.

1989

Photochemical behaviour of some 3,5-disubstituted 1,2,4-oxadiazoles in methanol at 254 nm has been investigated. Ring photoisomerization to the 1,3,4-oxadiazole heterocycle or formation of open chain compounds involving the nucleophilic solvent was shown to depend on the nature and the position of the substituent. Photoinduced ring closure into the benzimidazole system, involving a 3-N-phenylamino side chain sequence and a photolytic intermediate of the oxadiazole heterocycle, is also reported.

Chromatographic separation of chlorthalidone enantiomers using β-cyclodextrins as chiral additives

2000

Different beta-cyclodextrins have been tested as chiral additives in the mobile phase for the chromatographic analysis of chlorthalidone enantiomers in a C18 LiChrospher (125 x 4 mm I.D.) column. The effect on enantioresolution of different parameters was studied: composition of the mobile phase (percentage of organic solvent, type of buffer and pH), mobile phase flow-rate, and type and concentration of beta-cyclodextrin. A 25:75 mixture of methanol and 0.1 M phosphate buffer, pH 4, containing 2% triethylamine (v/v), and 12.5 mM beta-cyclodextrin, at a flow-rate of 0.8 ml/min, was found to be the best option for the resolution of chlorthalidone enantiomers. Under such conditions, linear cal…

Catalytic transesterification of Pistacia chinensis seed oil using HPW immobilized on magnetic composite graphene oxide/cellulose microspheres

2018

Abstract In the present study, magnetic composite graphene oxide/cellulose (GO/CM@Fe3O4) microspheres were prepared as support material, which are cost-efficient, non-toxic and environmental friendly. The microspheres with higher adsorption capacity were further modified using triethylene tetramine (TETA), and H3PW12O40 (HPW) was immobilized to form GO/CM-NH2@Fe3O4-HPW microspheres as heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production. The novel heterogeneous catalyst was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray diffractometry (XRD). For the first time, GO/CM-NH2@Fe3O4--HPW was applied in the tr…
