Genotoxicity of selected pesticides in the mouse bone-marrow micronucleus test and in the sister-chromatid exchange test with human lymphocytes in vi…

1996

Selected pesticides (aldicarb, 1,3-dichloropropene, methidathion, parathion, triadimefon, vinclozolin) were tested for their clastogenic and aneugenic activities in the mouse bone-marrow micronucleus (MN) test in vivo and for their sister-chromatid exchange-inducing activities in human lymphocytes in vitro in the presence and absence of an exogenous metabolizing system from rat-liver S9. 1,3-Dichloropropene significantly increased the frequencies of micronucleated polychromatic erythrocytes (PCE) in bone-marrow cells of female mice from 3.3 MN/1000 PCE to 15.3 MN/1000 PCE (187 mg per kg body weight). 1,3-Dichloropropene (100 microM) induced 16.0 SCE/metaphase after 24 h of incubation as com…

Comparison of microextraction procedures to determine pesticides in oranges by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry.

2002

A liquid chromatographic-mass spectrometric method has been developed for the determination of bitertanol, carbendazim, fenthion, flusilazole, hexythiazox, imidacloprid, methidathion, methiocarb, pyriproxyfen and trichlorfon. Two procedures, based on stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) and matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD), have been evaluated for the extraction of these compounds in oranges. Their respective advantages and disadvantages are also discussed. The recoveries obtained by MSPD ranged from 47 to 96% and the relative standard deviations (RSDs) ranged from 1 to 15%, whereas with the SBSE method the recoveries were between 8 and 84% and the RSDs between 4 and 16%. Although, the l…

Evaluation of 10 pesticide residues in oranges and tangerines from Valencia (Spain)

2006

Abstract One hundred and sixteen orange and tangerine samples from an agricultural cooperative of the Valencian Community (Spain) were analyzed for bitertanol, carbendazim, hexythiazox, imazalil, imidacloprid, methidathion, methiocarb, pyriproxyfen, thiabendazole, and trichlorfon by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (LC–MS) after a conventional multiresidue extraction procedure. Of 52 samples that contained pesticide residues, carbendazim was detected in 27 (51.9%) in the concentration range of 0.02–0.04 mg kg−1, hexythiazox in 22 (42.3%) in the concentration range of 0.02–0.05 mg kg−1, imazalil in 8 (15.0%) in the concentration range of 0.02–1.2 mg kg−1, imidacloprid in 5 (9.6%) in a…

Matrix solid-phase dispersion extraction procedure for multiresidue pesticide analysis in oranges.

1996

A multiresidue extraction method based on matrix solid-phase dispersion (MSPD) is optimized for the extraction and gas chromatographic screening of eighteen insecticides (aldrin, carbophenothion, captafol, chlorpyriphos, chlorfenvinphos, diazinon, dicofol, alpha-endosulfan, beta-endosulfan, ethion, fenitrothion, folpet, methidathion, malathion, methyl-azinphos, methyl-parathion, phosmet, and tetradifon) from oranges. After optimization of different parameters, such as type of solid phase used and the amount of solid phase or eluent, recoveries ranged from 67 to 102% with relative standard deviations ranging from 2 to 10%. The limits of detection, calculated as 3 times the baseline noise ran…

Analysis of currently used pesticides in fine airborne particulate matter (PM 2.5) by pressurized liquid extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem …

2008

During and after the application of currently used pesticides (CUPs) a significant fraction of applied pesticides can be lost to the air. A confirmatory and rapid procedure has been developed for the determination of four fungicides (carbendazim, thiabendazol, imazalil and bitertanol), three insecticides (imidacloprid, methidathion and pyriproxyfen), one helicide (methiocarb) and one acaricide (hexythiazox) in fine airborne particulate matter (PM 2.5) at trace level. The proposed method includes extraction of PM 2.5-bound pesticides by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) followed by a direct injection into LC-MS/MS. The main parameters affecting the performance of the electrospray ionizatio…

Assessment of Pesticide Residues in Honey Samples from Portugal and Spain

2003

Fifty samples of honey collected from local markets of Portugal and Spain during year 2002 were analyzed for 42 organochlorine, carbamate, and organophosphorus pesticide residues. An analytical procedure based on solid-phase extraction with octadecyl sorbent followed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), for organochlorines, and by liquid chromatography-atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (LC-APCI-MS), for organophosphorus and carbamates, has been developed. Recoveries of spiked samples ranged from 73 to 98%, except for dimethoate (40%), with relative standard deviations from 3 to16% in terms of repeatability, and from 6 to 19% in terms of reproducibility. …

Evaluation of Organophosphorus Pesticide Residues in Citrus Fruits from the Valencian Community (Spain)

1997

Abstract Approximately 200 citrus samples from markets of the Valencian Community (Spain) were analyzed to establish their residue levels in 12 organophosphorus pesticide residues during the 1994-1995 campaign. The organophosphorus pesticides carbophenothion, chlorpyriphos, chlorfenvinphos, diazinon, ethion, fenitrothion, malathion, methidation, methylparathion, phosmet, quinalphos, and tetradifon were simultaneously extracted by matrix solidphase dispersion and determined by gas chromatography- mass spectrometry using selected ion monitoring mode. A total of 32.25% contained pesticide residues and 6.9% exceeded the European Union Maximum Residue Levels (MRLs). The pesticides found in the s…

Degradation and acute toxicity of Methidathion and Trichlorfon onProcambarus clarkii,in experimental conditions

1991

Routine applications of organophosphate pesticides may adversely affect many nontarget organisms. Static toxicities in mature crayfish Procambarus clarkii were determined, in laboratory, for two organophosphate insecticides using 24, 48, 72 and 96‐h static tests. Three groups of 10 crayfish were exposed to 0.75 to 6 ppm for Trichlorfon and 0.2 to 0.9 ppm for Methidathion. The 24 to 96‐h LC50 values for Trichlorfon and Methidathion were from 5.14–0.99 ppm and 0.73–0.28 ppm respectively. Studies of degradation of Methidathion and Trichlorfon have been made using 1 ppm for Methidathion and 0.1 ppm for Trichlorfon. Both insecticides were degradated gradually until 96‐h. Results show that Methid…
