The child diary as a research tool

The aim of this article is to introduce the use of the child diary as a method in daily diary research. By describing the research process and detailing its structure, a child diary, a structured booklet in which children's parents and day-care personnel (N = 54 children) reported their observations, was evaluated. The participants reported the use of the diary to be an interesting but time-consuming experience. The main ethical challenges were related to power positions, confidentiality, consequences and motivation. Abstract A novel and effective extraction method, namely negative pressure cavitation-microwave assisted extraction technique (NMAE), was developed for the preparation of extracts of Pyrola incarnata Fisch., which are rich in the main constituents hyperin, 2′-O-galloylhyperin and chimaphilin. Single factor experiments and Box–Behnken design (BBD) were combined with a response surface methodology to examine factors affecting extraction. Introduction: The international research project IEA EBC Annex 72 investigates the life cycle related environmental impacts caused by buildings. The project aims inter alia to harmonise LCA approaches on buildings. Methods: To identify major commonalities and discrepancies among national LCA approaches, reference buildings were defined to present and compare the national approaches. A residential high-rise building located in Tianjin, China, was selected as one of the reference buildings. The main construction elements are reinforced concrete shear walls, beams and floor slabs. Adsorptive bubble separation methods have been used to enrich components from both heterogeneous and homogeneous solutions. These methods are particularly effective for processing large solution volumes at low cost. Previous work demonstrated that chiral, surface-active collectors could be used to enrich enantiomers from homogeneous solution in a foam fractionation process. With the goal of using chiral interactions at various orders to explore properties of the few-body nuclear systems, we write the recently developed local chiral interactions as spherical irreducible tensors and implement them in the hyperspherical harmonics expansion method. We devote particular attention to three-body forces at next-to-next-to leading order, which play an important role in reproducing experimental data. We check our implementation by benchmarking the ground-state properties of $^3$H, $^3$He and $^4$He against the available Monte Carlo calculations. Ionization Energies of ClO and Cl2O2

The ionization energies of chlorine oxide (ClO) and its dimer (Cl2O2) have been measured using monochromatic synchrotron radiation in the 10−20 eV energy regime in combination with photoionization mass spectrometry. The threshold energy of ClO+ (m/z = 51) is found at 10.85 ± 0.05 eV, whereas the ionization threshold of Cl2O2+ (m/z = 102) occurs at 11.05 ± 0.05 eV. The experimental values are compared to results from ab initio calculations, where three stable isomers of Cl2O2 are considered: dichlorine peroxide (ClOOCl), chloryl chloride (ClClO2), and chlorine chlorite (ClOClO). Ab initio calculations and vibrational spectroscopy on the phenylenediamine isomers

Molecular orbital calculations at HF and MP2 levels have been performed using the 6-3IG** basis set for full geometry optimization of the phenylenediamine isomers. Our results show that only a transoid conformer is found for o-phenylenediamine, whereas cis and trans conformers exist for m- and p-phenylenediamine. Vibrational normal modes have been also analyzed for the gas phase and in chloroform solution, and compared with experimental data we have obtained using FTIR spectroscopy. © 1998 Elsevier Science B.V.

Abstract Multinuclear magnetic resonance and IR spectra prove that although 2-(diacylmethyl)pyridines and 2-(diacylmethyl)quinolines are β-diketones, their proton transfer product present in chloroform solution is not ketoenol but enaminone (earlier opinions were contradictory). Quinoline derivatives are less zwitterionic by character than the respective pyridyl congeners. The β-diketone form itself may also be rarely present in the solution. X-ray data show that 2-(2(1H)-pyridinylidene)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione, i.e., enaminone tautomer of 2-(pyridin-2-yl)-2H-indene-1,3-dione, is also the only form present in crystal.
