Chances and Challenges of Computational Data Gathering and Analysis

Digital and social media and large available data-sets generate various new possibilities and challenges for conducting research focused on perpetually developing online news ecosystems. This paper presents a novel computational technique for gathering and processing large quantities of data from Facebook. We demonstrate how to use this technique for detecting and analysing issue-attention cycles and news flows in Facebook groups and pages. Cyclic coordinate for penalized Gaussian graphical models with symmetry restriction

In this paper we propose two efficient cyclic coordinate algorithms to estimate structured concentration matrix in penalized Gaussian graphical models. Symmetry restrictions on the concentration matrix are particularly useful to reduce the number of parameters to be estimated and to create specific structured graphs. The penalized Gaussian graphical models are suitable for high-dimensional data.

Validation of the Kenny Music Performance Anxiety Inventory (K-MPAI): A cross-cultural confirmation of its factorial structure

This research investigated whether music performance anxiety (MPA) can be theoretically understood as a unidimensional construct, and whether the factorial structure is robust across different populations of musicians with different levels of expertise. K-MPAI scores were obtained from 455 Peruvian tertiary music students (mean age = 21.19 years, SD = 3.13, range = 18–40 years) and 368 Australian professional orchestral musicians (mean age = 42.07 years, SD = 10.21, range = 18–68 years). The aim of the paper is two-fold. First, we show that structure finding with the PC algorithm can be inherently unstable and requires further operational constraints in order to consistently obtain models that are faithful to the data. We propose a methodology to stabilise the structure finding process, minimising both false positive and false negative error rates. This is demonstrated with synthetic data. The dough rheology is one of the most important aspect in bread making so it is very important to accurate evaluate the wheat potential for breadmaking by rheological test. The wheat must be milled for testing; the mill used influence the relevancy of wheat tests. The objective of this study is to evaluate the rheological properties of flour obtained by grinding ten samples of wheat in three of the most common laboratory mills (Perten 120, Quadromat Jr. and Chopin CD1). Feedback Classification and Optimal Control with Applications to the Controlled Lotka-Volterra Model

Let M be a σ-compact C^∞ manifold of dimension n ≥ 2 and consider a single-input control system: ẋ(t) = X (x(t)) + u(t) Y (x(t)), where X , Y are C^∞ vector fields on M. We prove that there exist an open set of pairs (X , Y ) for the C^∞ –Whitney topology such that they admit singular abnormal rays so that the spectrum of the projective singular Hamiltonian dynamics is feedback invariant. It is applied to controlled Lotka–Volterra dynamics where such rays are related to shifted equilibria of the free dynamics.

Avoiding strange attractors in efficient parametric families of iterative methods for solving nonlinear problems

[EN] Searching zeros of nonlinear functions often employs iterative procedures. In this paper, we construct several families of iterative methods with memory from one without memory, that is, we have increased the order of convergence without adding new functional evaluations. The main aim of this manuscript yields in the advantage that the use of real multidimensional dynamics gives us to decide among the different classes designed and, afterwards, to select its most stable members. ATP binding cassette (ABC) transporters actively transport various xenobiotics across biological membranes.
