Galaxy clusters from SDSS DR8
2012
The study of the signatures of multimodality in groups and clusters of galaxies, an environment for most of the galaxies in the Universe, gives us information about the dynamical state of clusters and about merging processes, which affect the formation and evolution of galaxies, groups and clusters, and larger structures - superclusters of galaxies and the whole cosmic web. We search for the presence of substructure, a non-Gaussian, asymmetrical velocity distribution of galaxies, and large peculiar velocities of the main galaxies in clusters with at least 50 member galaxies, drawn from the SDSS DR8. Monialaisen ohjauksen rakentuminen ohjaustilanteissa: onko monialainen ohjaus monialaista?
2022
Monialaisia ohjauspalveluita perustellaan niiden myönteisillä vaikutuksilla asiakkaisiin, työntekijöihin ja mukana oleviin palveluntuottajiin, mutta monialaista ohjausta koskeva empiirinen ja teoreettinen tutkimusnäyttö on toistaiseksi vähäistä. Tarkastelemme artikkelissamme sitä, miten eri tavoin monialaista ohjausta toteutetaan toiminnan tasolla. Aineiston muodostaa vuosina 2018–2019 kerätty havainnointiaineisto nuorten ohjaus- ja neuvontapalveluja tuottavan Ohjaamon ohjaustilanteista (n = 68). Kysymme, millaisiin erilaisiin tekoihin monialainen ohjaus jäsentyy ohjauksen työmuodon ja ammatillisten toimintatapojen perusteella, joita olivat ohjaajien lukumäärä, ohjauksen tavoite, ohjauksen …
Everyday Life Meaningfulness for the Community-Dwelling Oldest Old During the COVID-19 Pandemic
2021
In many countries, the COVID-19 pandemic has led to strong restrictions and changed the everyday lives of older people. In Finland, people aged 70 and over were instructed to stay at home under quarantine-like conditions. Existing studies from other countries have reported increases in negative experiences and symptoms as a result of such restrictions, including psychosocial stress. However, little focus has been given to older people’s experiences of meaningfulness during the pandemic. Using survey and interview data, we ask to what extent have community-dwelling oldest old (80+) experienced meaningfulness during the pandemic, what background factors are associated with meaningfulness and …
Family related variables effect on later educational outcome: a further geospatial analysis on TIMSS 2015 Finland
2020
AbstractFamily-related factors, like parent’s educational level, their values and expectations have a significant impact on child’s early skills and later educational outcomes. Further, parents provide their child, alongside with other learning environments, a broad mathematical and early literacy input. This study investigates the relationship between family-related socio-economic and other factors like, parental education, amount of books at home, parental attitudes towards mathematics and science, parental perception of child’s early skills and student’s later academic achievement. This is studied in the light of the Finnish data collected for Trends in International Mathematics and Scie…

Interactive methods for multiobjective robust optimization
2018
Practical optimization problems usually have multiple objectives, and they also involve uncertainty from different sources. Various robustness concepts have been proposed to handle multiple objectives and the involved uncertainty simultaneously. However, the practical applicability of the proposed concepts in decision making has not been widely studied in the literature. Developing solution methods to support a decision maker to find a most preferred robust solution is an even more rarely studied topic. Thus, we focus on two goals in this thesis including 1) analyzing the practical applicability of different robustness concepts in decision making and 2) developing interactive methods for sup…
Virtues for innovativeness : a mixed methods study of ethical organisational culture and organisational innovativeness
2016
Artikkeliväitöskirja. Sisältää yhteenveto-osan ja neljä artikkelia. Article dissertation. Contains an introduction part and five articles. This study examined ethical organisational culture, consisting of ethical organisational virtues, and organisational innovativeness. More specifically, the study explored the relationship between the phenomena. Ethical organisational culture was studied using Corporate Ethical Virtues (CEV) model, which is based on the virtue theory of business ethics. This research makes a contribution to prior research on ethical organisational culture by linking the concept of organisational innovativeness (OIN) to it. The overall goal of this study was to increase th…

Finite groups with all minimal subgroups solitary
2016
We give a complete classification of the finite groups with a unique subgroup of order p for each prime p dividing its order. All the groups considered in this paper will be finite. One of the most fruitful lines in the research in abstract group theory during the last years has been the study of groups in which the members of a certain family of subgroups satisfy a certain subgroup embedding property. The family of the subgroups of prime order (also called minimal subgroups) has attracted the interest of many mathematicians. For example, a well-known result of Itˆo (see [8, Kapitel III, Satz 5.3; 9]) states that a group of odd order with all minimal subgroups in the center is nilpotent. Th…
Cell-cycle control in cell-biomaterial interactions
2000
Current biocompatibility testing involves the demonstration of cell proliferation, which is usually interpreted as a sign of positive biocompatibility when the materials sustain cell proliferation. As the field of biomaterials research is rapidly moving toward tissue-engineered devices and hybrid organs, control of cell function has become a main topic. Cell function, which involves specific differentiation pathways, cannot be separated from cell-cycle control. The study of cell-cycle control is an important extension of routine proliferation assays and has extensive roots in developmental and tumor biology. We studied the expression of the tumour suppressor gene p53 and the proliferation-a…
