Planning as evolution: radical pedagogy, creative methods and urban research
2022
Beyond reductionist thought, looking at a theoretical framework that embrace a complex dimension of knowledge, the urban planning discipline is going through a radical change. An attitude well expressed by a large group of intellectuals who recognize the fragility of the discipline and re-think themselves in opposition to the excess of specialization of the modern world to grasp the vital interconnection between things, the intersection spaces, on disciplinary boundaries, where concepts become images, symbols, practices, processes. In this ongoing change of paradigm, sensitive approaches and aesthetic rationalities arouse interest within urban and territorial studies. Starting from the inte…

ENSEMBLE METHODS FOR RANKING DATA
2017
The last years have seen a remarkable flowering of works about the use of decision trees for ranking data. As a matter of fact, decision trees are useful and intuitive, but they are very unstable: small perturbations bring big changes. This is the reason why it could be necessary to use more stable procedures, as ensemble methods, in order to find which predictors are able to explain the preference structure. In this work ensemble methods as BAGGING and Random Forest are proposed, from both a theoretical and computational point of view, for deriving classification trees when ranking data are observed. The advantages of these procedures are shown through an example on the SUSHI data set.
Iodine(I) and Silver(I) Complexes Incorporating 3-Substituted Pyridines
2023
Building upon the first report of a 3-acetaminopyridine-based iodine(I) complex (1b) and its unexpected reactivity toward tBuOMe, several new 3-substituted iodine(I) complexes (2b–5b) have been synthesized. The iodine(I) complexes were synthesized from their analogous silver(I) complexes (2a–5a) via a silver(I) to iodine(I) cation exchange reaction, incorporating functionally related substituents as 3-acetaminopyridine in 1b; 3-acetylpyridine (3-Acpy; 2), 3-aminopyridine (3-NH2py; 3), and 3-dimethylaminopyridine (3-NMe2py; 4), as well as the strongly electron-withdrawing 3-cyanopyridine (3-CNpy; 5), to probe the possible limitations of iodine(I) complex formation. The individual properties …
Innovative sequential batch reactor solutions for wastewater treatment
2019
The SO2F2 quasi-spherical top: Correspondence between tensorial and Watson's formalisms
2006
Abstract The SO2F2 quasi-spherical top molecule with C2v symmetry is considered as a distorted spherical top deriving from the SO 4 2 − tetrahedral ion. We present here a detailed correspondence between the tensorial formalism using the Td⊃C2v reorientation and the usual Hamiltonian of Watson. We have also performed ab initio calculations in order to determine the centrifugal distorsion constants in the vibrational ground state.
TECHNOLOGICAL DESIGN. THE INNOVATION IN THE METHOD
2018
The book presents reflections on the centrality of Design in the discipline of Technology of Architecture and on the need to adapt the design method to the innovation of thought implemented by the research world. The theme of the Innovation in the Method of Technological Design is an interesting challenge that in this volume has been addressed considering the complexity of the levels of thematic depth, opening up to critical reflections, proposals for tools and illustration of case studies that show the breadth, relevance and multidimensionality of this issue. The era of digital and information technology have significantly influenced the way of doing and thinking in architecture and this e…
Surrogacy relationships: a critical interpretative review
2020
Abstract Based on a critical interpretative review of existing qualitative research investigating accounts of ‘lived experience’ of surrogates and intended parents from a relational perspective, this article proposes a typology of surrogacy arrangements. The review is based on the analysis of 39 articles, which belong to a range of different disciplines (mostly sociology, social psychology, anthropology, ethnology, and gender studies). The number of interviews in each study range from as few as seven to over one hundred. Countries covered include Australia, Canada, Greece, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Norway, Russia, Sweden, UK, Ukraine, and the USA. Most studies focus only on surrog…
Rotational effects on the oscillation frequencies of newly born proto-neutron stars
2003
In this paper we study the effects of rotation on the frequencies of the quasi-normal modes of a proto-neutron star (PNS) born in a gravitational collapse during the first minute of life. Our analysis starts a few tenths of seconds after the PNS formation, when the stellar evolution can be described by a sequence of equilibrium configurations. We use the evolutionary models developed by Pons et al. (1999; 2001) that describe how a non rotating star cools down and contracts while neutrino diffusion and thermalization processes dominate the stellar dynamics. For assigned values of the evolution time, we set the star into slow rotation and integrate the equations of stellar perturbations in th…
Kernel Feature Extraction Methods for Remote Sensing Data Analysis
2014
Technological advances in the last decades have improved our capabilities of collecting and storing high data volumes. However, this makes that in some fields, such as remote sensing several problems are generated in the data processing due to the peculiar characteristics of their data. High data volume, high dimensionality, heterogeneity and their nonlinearity, make that the analysis and extraction of relevant information from these images could be a bottleneck for many real applications. The research applying image processing and machine learning techniques along with feature extraction, allows the reduction of the data dimensionality while keeps the maximum information. Therefore, develo…
