Many cities in the world, including Greater Manila, are suffering from many ills linked to the dominant use of motor vehicles in daily mobility : air pollution, traffic congestion, accidents... We will present some of the measures implemented in Europe, especially France and Germany, to improve the quality of urban life through "green" transportation policies. Then we will have a look at some accomplishments in selected American and Asian cities like Japan, before suggesting some ideas on how to improve the situation in Manila through an adaptation of foreign successes to the specificities of the Philippines capital region.

Akomodācijas atbildes saistība ar heteroforijas un ametropijas veidiem

Maģistra darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 41 lapaspuses. Tas satur 24 attēlus, 3 tabulas un 48 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis: noteikt akomodācijas atpalikšanu monokulāros un binokulāros apstākļos un tās saistību ar refrakcijas veidu un heteroforijas veidu. Dalībnieki: 21 dalībnieks ar emetropiju, 21 dalībnieks ar miopiju. Metode: Akomodācijas atpalikšana tika noteikta ar MEM un Nott dinamisko retinoskopiju un ar ekscentrisko fotorefraktometru. Heteroforija tika mērīta ar Madox rod un Madox wing testiem. Rezultāti: Ametropijas un heteroforijas veids neietekmē akomodācijas atpalikšanas lielumu. Redzes refraktīvo defektu izplatība skolas vecuma bērniem

Darbs ir uzrakstīts latviešu valodā uz 28 lapaspusēm, satur 7 attēlus, 10 tabulas, un 28 atsauces uz literatūras avotiem. Darba mērķis bija novērtēt nekoriģēto redzes refraktīvo defektu izplatību skolas vecuma bērniem dažādās vecuma grupās. Pētījumā tika izmantoti 11033 skolēnu dati no LU skrīninga projekta “Skolas vecuma bērnu redzes un redzes uztveres traucējumu pētīšana un diagnostikas metodiku izstrāde”. Tika analizēta refraktīvo defektu izplatības atkarībā no vecuma un smaguma pakāpes. Nekoriģētie redzes refraktīvie defekti tika konstatēti 8,5 % skolēniem, no tiem 25,8 % skolēniem novēroja miopiju, 11,1 % – hipermetropju, un 22,4 % vienkāršo vai saliktu astigmatismu. Este artículo es la adaptación textual de un trabajo hipertextual que pretendía, mediante los hiperenlaces, poner de manifiesto las relaciones directas entre diferentes materiales literarios donde aparecieran las líneas de metro de París. Así, a partir del relato “Manuscrito hallado en el bolsillo” de Cortázar, se inicia uno de los múltiples trayectos existentes que pasará por otros textos: teóricos, De Certau y Augé; literarios, del propio Cortázar y de Poe; y plásticos, de Magritte y Mondrian.

Femtosecond‑LASIK outcomes using the VisuMax®‑MEL® 80 platform for hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism refractive surgery

The present study evaluated the efficacy, the safety and the predictability of the Femtosecond laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (Femto-LASIK) procedure for hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism. We retrospectively analyzed the postoperative 12-month evolution of 593 eyes with hyperopia and hyperopic astigmatism that underwent Femto-LASIK treatment. The procedure was predictable and effective. No eye lost 2 lines of corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), demonstrating a safety profile of the procedure. Nine percent of the eyes gained at least one line of CDVA. The accuracy of the spherical equivalent after 12 months was 74% within ±1.0 diopter (D) of emmetropia. The refractive outcomes …

Introduction The phacoemulsification cataract surgery is the most frequently performed surgery and it generally improves vision in over 90% of the patients. Hyperopic patients are a challenge during phacoemulsification especially because of their short eyeball and shallow anterior chamber.
