Motivational Regulations Across the Stages of Change for Exercise in the General Population of Monterrey (Mexico)

2018

Few studies have examined exercise adherence in the Mexican population using self-determination theory proposals and the stages of change model. The objectives of this study were:(a) to translate and adapt the Behavioral Regulation in Exercise Questionnaire-3 (BREQ-3) to Mexican Spanish and examine its internal consistency and factorial structure (six dimensions); and (b) to analyse variations in behavioral regulations using the stages of change model. This study included 530 participants between 11 and 76 years old who lived in the metropolitan area of the city of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The Mexican version of the BREQ-3 presented an acceptable six-factor model that agrees with the …

Simuloidun jäähdytyksen suppenemislause

2013

Tilastolliseen fysiikkaan analogian omaavan, Gibbsin jakauman ominaisuuksiin pohjautuvan menetelm än matemaattisena perustana toimivat epähomogeeniset Markovin ketjut, joiden suppenemista tarkastellaan Dobrushinin kontraktiokerroinmenetelmän avulla. Simuloidun jäähdytyksen suppenemislause, joka takaa …

The system of protected areas as the core element in a new vision of the Metropolitan City of Palermo

2022

2014

What is the role of agriculture in contemporary societies? Two thousand years ago, Cicero stated that tending fields is among the noblest occupations for grown men, but our contemporary lifestyle seems to have forgotten that lesson. For a very long time, agriculture has been considered a relic of ancient times, and not to be pursued by techno-friendly citizens. However, we are experiencing a renaissance of attention and importance, as urban gardening and other innovative forms of agriculture and horticulture are spreading throughout our hyper-technological postmetropolises. These forms of crop tending are also stimulating new forms of relationships, spurring people to regain some control ov…

Urban Heat Island Monitoring and Impacts on Citizen's General Health Status in Isfahan Metropolis: A Remote Sensing and Field Survey Approach.

2020

Urban heat islands (UHIs) are one of the urban management challenges, especially in metropolises, which can affect citizens’ health and well-being. This study used a combination of remote sensing techniques with field survey to investigate systematically the effects of UHI on citizens’ health in Isfahan metropolis, Iran. For this purpose, the land surface temperature (LST) over a three-year period was monitored by Landsat-8 satellite imagery based on the split window algorithm. Then, the areas where UHI and urban cold island (UCI) phenomena occurred were identified and a general health questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28) was applied to evaluate the health status of 800 citizens in terms o…

Can the adaptive Metropolis algorithm collapse without the covariance lower bound?

2011

The Adaptive Metropolis (AM) algorithm is based on the symmetric random-walk Metropolis algorithm. The proposal distribution has the following time-dependent covariance matrix at step $n+1$ \[ S_n = Cov(X_1,...,X_n) + \epsilon I, \] that is, the sample covariance matrix of the history of the chain plus a (small) constant $\epsilon>0$ multiple of the identity matrix $I$. The lower bound on the eigenvalues of $S_n$ induced by the factor $\epsilon I$ is theoretically convenient, but practically cumbersome, as a good value for the parameter $\epsilon$ may not always be easy to choose. This article considers variants of the AM algorithm that do not explicitly bound the eigenvalues of $S_n$ away …
