Incompatibility in Multi-Parameter Quantum Metrology with Fermionic Gaussian States

2019

In this article we derive a closed form expression for the incompatibility condition in multi-parameter quantum metrology when the reference states are Fermionic Gaussian states. Together with the quantum Fisher information, the knowledge of the compatibility condition provides a way of designing optimal measurement strategies for multi-parameter quantum estimation. Applications range from quantum metrology with thermal states to non-equilibrium steady states with Fermionic and spin systems.

Doppler-free two-photon spectrum of SF_6 for metrological purposes

1998

We report on our systematic investigation of strong Doppler-free two-photon absorption in the middle infrared. The absorption frequencies for two counterpropagating waves of identical frequencies are predicted. Five of these transitions were observed with sub-Doppler resolution with a sideband CO(2) laser and were measured with 10-kHz accuracy. Knowledge of these strong two-photon absorptions frequencies will allow the improvement of secondary frequency standards in the infrared.

Indistinguishability-enabled coherence for quantum metrology

2019

Quantum coherence plays a fundamental and operational role in different areas of physics. A resource theory has been developed to characterize the coherence of distinguishable particles systems. Here we show that indistinguishability of identical particles is a source of coherence, even when they are independently prepared. In particular, under spatially local operations, states that are incoherent for distinguishable particles, can be coherent for indistinguishable particles under the same procedure. We present a phase discrimination protocol, in which we demonstrate the operational advantage of using two indistinguishable particles rather than distinguishable ones. The coherence due to th…

Adiabatic quantum simulation with a segmented ion trap: Application to long-distance entanglement in quantum spin systems

2013

We investigate theoretically systems of ions in segmented linear Paul traps for the quantum simulation of quantum spin models with tunable interactions. The scheme is entirely general and can be applied to the realization of arbitrary spin-spin interactions. As a specific application we discuss in detail the quantum simulation of models that exhibit long-distance entanglement in the ground state. We show how tailoring of the axial trapping potential allows for generating spin-spin coupling patterns that are suitable to create long-distance entanglement. We discuss how suitable sequences of microwave pulses can implement Trotter expansions and realize various kinds of effective spin-spin int…

Genuine tripartite entanglement in a spin-star network at thermal equilibrium

2010

In a recent paper [M. Huber {\it et al}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 104}, 210501 (2010)] new criteria to find out the presence of multipartite entanglement have been given. We exploit these tools in order to study thermal entanglement in a spin-star network made of three peripheral spins interacting with a central one. Genuine tripartite entanglement is found in a wide range of the relevant parameters. A comparison between predictions based on the new criteria and on the tripartite negativity is also given.

Readout of quantum information spreading using a disordered quantum walk

2021

We design a quantum probing protocol using quantum walks to investigate the quantum information spreading pattern. We employ quantum Fisher information as a figure of merit to quantify extractable information about an unknown parameter encoded within the quantum walk evolution. Although the approach is universal, we focus on the coherent static and dynamic disorder to investigate anomalous and classical transport as well as Anderson localization. We provide a feasible experimental strategy to implement, in principle, the quantum probing protocol based on the quantum Fisher information using a Mach–Zehnder-like interferometric setup. Our results show that a quantum walk can be considered as …

Heat Capacity and Entanglement Measure in a simple two-qubit model

2011

A simple two-qubit model showing Quantum Phase Transitions as a consequence of ground state level crossings is studied in detail. Using the Concurrence of the system as an entanglement measure and heat capacity as a marker of thermodynamical properties, an analytical expression giving the latter in terms of the former is obtained. A protocol allowing an experimental measure of entanglement is then presented and compared with a related proposal recently reported by Wie\'sniak, Vedral and Brukner

Time-energy filtering of single electrons in ballistic waveguides

2019

Characterizing distinct electron wave packets is a basic task for solid-state electron quantum optics with applications in quantum metrology and sensing. A important circuit element for this task is a non-stationary potential barrier than enables backscattering of chiral particles depending on their energy and time of arrival. Here we solve the quantum mechanical problem of single-particle scattering by a ballistic constriction in an fully depleted quantum Hall system under spatially uniform but time-dependent electrostatic potential modulation. The result describes electrons distributed in time-energy space according to a modified Wigner quasiprobability distribution and scattered with an …

Spin-lattice relaxation of individual solid-state spins

2018

Understanding the effect of vibrations on the relaxation process of individual spins is crucial for implementing nanosystems for quantum information and quantum metrology applications. In this work, we present a theoretical microscopic model to describe the spin-lattice relaxation of individual electronic spins associated to negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy centers in diamond, although our results can be extended to other spin-boson systems. Starting from a general spin-lattice interaction Hamiltonian, we provide a detailed description and solution of the quantum master equation of an electronic spin-one system coupled to a phononic bath in thermal equilibrium. Special attention is given…

Comparaison de la mesure des déformations de fantômes de l’aorte à partir d’image obtenues par IRM et stéréovision

2015

International audience; The study of the wall strain distribution could be helpful to improve the decision criterion for surgery of aortic aneurysm. Recently, numerical simulations can complete the data obtained from imaging measurement in order to develop reliable models. However, the used medical imaging tools are not experimentally validated, in metrological point of view. The aim of this study focused on accuracy and reliability of measurement obtained from kinetic MR sequences. The measures of deformations from MRI were compare to those obtained from stereovision system. Cylindrical phantom of silicone material similar to arterial behavior simulated a symmetric aneurysm was designed. A…
