Local tunneling study of three-dimensional order parameter in the pi band of Al-doped MgB2 single crystals

We have performed local tunneling spectroscopy on high quality Mg$_{1-x}$Al$_x$B$_2$ single crystals by means of Variable Temperature Scanning Tunneling Spectroscopy (STS) in magnetic field up to 3 Tesla. Single gap conductance spectra due to c-axis tunneling were extensively measured, probing different amplitudes of the three-dimensional $\Delta_\pi$ as a function of Al content. Temperature and magnetic field dependences of the conductance spectra were studied in S-I-N configuration: the effect of the doping resulted in a monotonous reduction of the locally measured $T_C$ down to 24K for x=0.2. Introduction: Heat Shock Protein 60 (Hsp60) is a member of the chaperoning system that assists protein folding inside mitochondria and plays other roles beyond these organelles. It is implicated in the carcinogenic processes in various types of cancer. In human salivary glands, Hsp60 has not yet been measured or mapped in detail and its role in gland development and functioning is virtually unknown. Consequently, its potential as biomarker for gland diseases, including malignancies cannot be assessed. Abstract. In this forum paper we discuss how soil scientists can help to reach the recently adopted UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the most effective manner. Assessing impacts of soil management measures on ecosystem services

Only a few studies have quantified and measured ecosystem services (ES) specifically related to soil. To address this gap, we have developed and applied a methodology to assess changes in ecosystem services, based on measured or estimated soil property changes that were stimulated by soil management measures (e.g., mulching, terracing, no-till). We applied the ES assessment methodology in 16 case study sites across Europe representing a high diversity of soil threats and land use systems. Element variability in the coralline alga Lithophyllum yemenense as archive of past climate in the Gulf of Aden (NW Indian Ocean)

This study presents the first algal thallus (skeleton) archive of Asian monsoon strength and Red Sea influence in the Gulf of Aden. Mg/Ca, Li/Ca, and Ba/Ca were measured in Lithophyllum yemenense from Balhaf (Gulf of Aden) using laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, and Mg/Ca ratio oscillation was used to reconstruct the chronology (34 y). Oscillations of element rates corresponding to the algal growth between 1974 and 2008 were compared with recorded climate and oceanographic variability. Bakalaura darbā “Ekstremālo nokrišņu raksturs un izmaiņu tendences Zemgalē un Latgalē (1950. – 2013.)” analizēti diennakts nokrišņu rādītāji Zemgales un Latgales reģioniem. Lai detalizēti identificētu ekstremālo vērtību tendences, tika izmantoti pieci nokrišņus raksturojošie indeksi – intensīvo nokrišņu dienu (R10 mm), ļoti intensīvo dienu (R20 mm), mēreni mitro dienu (R75p), ļoti mitro dienu (R95p) un ekstremāli mitro dienu (R99p) indeksu izmaiņas 63 gadu laikā. Pētījumā izmantotas kopā 13 novērojumu stacijas – 7 stacijas Zemgalē un 6 - Latgalē. Pētījums ir aktuāls, jo ekstremālo nokrišņu ilglaicīgo tendenču noteikšana, var palīdzēt sabiedrībai sagatavoties iespējamiem plūdu riskiem dažādā…

Bakalaura darbā apskatīta Tērvetes upes mūsdienu ieleja un procesi, kas to veidojuši laika posmā no Latvijas apledojuma Linkuvas oscilācijas līdz mūsdienām. Teorētiskajā daļā apskatīti galveni noteces ieleju veidotājspēki, kā arī morfoloģiskie procesi, kas veido mūsdienu Latvijas upju ielejām raksturīgos elementus. Sniegts ieskats bakalaura tapšanas gaitā izmantotajās pētniecības metodēs un materiālos. Rezultātu sadaļā analizēti izveidotie ielejas šķērsprofili un garenprofili, kā arī iegūtie Tērvetes un tās ielejas morfoloģiskie rādītāji.
