Opera, ball and spoken theatre at the royal palace of Caserta

The royal palace of Caserta was built at the behest of Charles of Bourbon but completed under his son, Ferdinand IV. During the second half of the Eigheteenth Century, it hosted many different musical activities; succesfull serious and comic operas already performed in the theatres of Naples as well as vocal and instrumental concerts were offered there to a selected audience. Tragedies, “all’immprovviso” comedies and balls were also frequently enjoyed by the members of the royal family. In the small center of San Leucio, 4 kilometres far from Caserta, Paisiello’s “Nina o sia La pazza per amore” was premiered in 1789.

Di Michele Perriera (Palermo, 1937-2010), scrittore, drammaturgo, maestro di teatro, è qui considerato specialmente il dramma "I Pavoni" (1983, 1998), del quale egli fu autore e regista. Si coglie quindi il senso del suo teatro, che "si nutre di musica ed alla musica aspira", e dei suoi romanzi, "Romanzo d'amore" (2002) e "Finirà questa malìa?" (2004).

This essay is about Michele Cometa, essayist, literary and aesthetic critic and one of the founders of Italian Visual Culture ,both as a cultural approach and as an academic discipline (or, rather, un-discipline). He is responsible for the reception of W.J.T. Mitchell in Italy, having edited the first translations of his works (see, Pictorial Turn. Essays on Visual Culture, 2008, new edition 2017). He also organized the first meeting entirely devoted to the discipline in 2007, hosting the encounter between Mitchell’s Pictorial turn and Belting’s Iconic Turn and the different approaches they gave origin to in Italy.

The aim of this paper is to compare three recent republications of Michele Mari’s works, Di bestia in bestia (1989 Longanesi and 2013 Einaudi), Asterusher. Autobiografia per feticci (2015 and 2019 Corraini edizioni) and Leggenda privata (2017 Einaudi),which all show consistent changes. The intention is precisely to point out the reciprocal relationships between these works and the different ways they have been transformed, both in the cases of literary writing alone and in those involving phototextual forms, in order to trace a possible unity of intent. · The Novel as an End. A Comparative Study of the Works of Walter Siti and Michel Houellebecq · This essay questions the possibility of a comparative study of Siti and Houellebecq’s works. It identifies a point of contact in the common representation of the End as a preferred lens for the study of the individual: both authors represent contemporary society from a strong apocalyptic point of view. The relationships between the two authors are analyzed starting from the recognition of three thematic areas: the link between sex and money in the representation of desire; the disappearance of a religious horizon, followed by the most total nihilism; and a deliberately immoralist way of narrating.
