Reduced grey brookite for noble metal free photocatalytic H2evolution

Herein we introduce for the first time a reduced “grey” brookite TiO2 photocatalyst, produced by thermal hydrogenation of brookite nanoparticles, that shows a remarkable noble metal free photocatalytic H2 evolution. Its activity is substantially higher than that of other TiO2 polymorphs, i.e. anatase or rutile, comparably sized and activated by hydrogenation under optimized conditions. Along with brookite powders, an oriented brookite single crystal was investigated as a defined surface to confirm the effects of the hydrogenation treatment. Preparation and photoactivity of samarium loaded anatase, brookite and rutile catalysts

Abstract Pure and samarium loaded anatase, brookite and rutile nanopowders were synthesized by thermohydrolysis of TiCl 4 . The samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), specific surface area (SSA) determination, UV–vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), atomic force microscopy (AFM), contact angle (CA) measurements and photoluminescence (PL) spectroscopy. The photocatalytic activity of pure and Sm-loaded TiO 2 polymorphs was investigated by employing the photodegradation of 4-nitrophenol as probe reaction in a liquid-solid system. Photocatalytic Selective Oxidation of 5-(Hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde to 2,5-Furandicarbaldehyde in Water by Using Anatase, Rutile, and Brookite TiO2…

5-(Hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde (HMF) was selectively oxidized to 2,5-furandicarbaldehyde (FDC) in; aqueous medium by using home prepared (HP) anatase, rutile, and brookite TiO2 nanoparticles. HP samples were prepared via a sol-gel method by using TiCl4 as the TiO2 precursor. Commercial TiO2 catalysts were also used for, comparison. All samples were characterized by BET specific surface area, XRD, TGA, and SEM, and the reactivity results showed that HP catalysts are predominantly amorphous and give rise to selectivities toward FDC more than twice that of commercial and well crystallized catalysts.

Photocatalytic thin films of TiO2 formed by a sol-gel process using titanium tetraisopropoxide as the precursor

Abstract Thin TiO 2 films were prepared with the dip-coating technique by using sols deriving from titanium tetraisopropoxide. TiO 2 films were formed on glass substrates previously covered by a SiO 2 layer obtained from a tetraethylortosilicate sol. The films, after a thermal treatment at 673 K, mainly consisted of TiO 2 anatase. The samples were characterised by X-ray diffraction, UV–Vis spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Recovery of Lithium Carbonate from Dilute Li-Rich Brine via Homogenous and Heterogeneous Precipitation

An extensive experimental campaign on Li recovery from relatively dilute LiCl solutions (i.e., Li+ similar to 4000 ppm) is presented to identify the best operating conditions for a Li2CO3 crystallization unit. Lithium is currently mainly produced via solar evaporation, purification, and precipitation from highly concentrated Li brines located in a few world areas. The process requires large surfaces and long times (18-24 months) to concentrate Li` up to 20,000 ppm. Photocatalytic conversion of glucose in aqueous suspensions of heteropolyacid-TiO2 composites.

Commercial and home prepared TiO2 samples were functionalized with a commercial Keggin heteropolyacid (HPA) H 3PW12O 40 (PW12) or with a hydrothermally home prepared K 7PW11O 39 salt (PW11). All the materials were characterized by specific surface area measurements (BET), XRD analyses, Raman, DRS along with SEM observations and they have been used for glucose photocatalytic conversion in an aqueous suspension.
