Framework for pedagogical learning analytics
2018
Learning analytics is an emergent technological practice and a multidisciplinary scientific discipline, which goal is to facilitate effective learning and knowledge of learning. In this design science research, I combine knowledge discovery process, a concept of pedagogical knowledge, ethics of learning analytics and microservice architecture. The result is a framework for pedagogical learning analytics. The framework is applied and evaluated in the context of agency analytics. The framework contributes to the practical use of learning analytics.

Determination of the Time Window of Event-Related Potential Using Multiple-Set Consensus Clustering
2020
Clustering is a promising tool for grouping the sequence of similar time-points aimed to identify the attention blocks in spatiotemporal event-related potentials (ERPs) analysis. It is most likely to elicit the appropriate time window for ERP of interest if a suitable clustering method is applied to spatiotemporal ERP. However, how to reliably estimate a proper time window from entire individual subjects’ data is still challenging. In this study, we developed a novel multiset consensus clustering method in which several clustering results of multiple subjects were combined to retrieve the best fitted clustering for all the subjects within a group. Then, the obtained clustering was processed…

A microstructure based mechanical model for planar fibrous scaffolds.
2010
Cardiac valve and myocardium tissue regeneration has consistently raised interest for cell-seeded/microintegrated planar fibrous scaffolds. Electrospun constructs, decellularized tissues and collagen/fibrin gels often show a similar microstructure mainly characterized by the fibrous network topology. Microstructure based mechanical modeling enable fabrication parameters and scaffolds morphology to be related to mesomacro mechanical response. A novel approach to (1) characterize the material fibers network microarchitecture, (2) reproduce stochastically equivalent fiber network models, and (3) predict the mechanical response at meso-macro level is presented in this work. Electron micrographs…
Assessment of the Inter-Batch Variability of Microstructure Parameters in Topical Semisolids and Impact on the Demonstration of Equivalence
2019
Demonstration of similar microstructure is essential for demonstrating the equivalence of generic topical products since the microstructure of semisolids may affect the drug release. The objective of this study was to compare the microstructure-defining physical parameters of different batches of a reference ointment containing calcipotriol and betamethasone (Daivobet 50 µ
Nodular cast iron fatigue lifetime in cyclic plane bending
2012
The fatigue behavior of a component is strongly dependent on the material and its surface condition. Therefore, the manner in which the surface is prepared during component manufacturing (surface roughness, residual stresses etc.) has a decisive role in dictating the initiation time for fatigue cracks. The fatigue behavior of the same material, a nodular cast iron, with three different surface conditions (fine ground, sand blast and as-cast) has been investigated under cyclic plane bending. The results show differences in fatigue strength, which are associated with the surface conditions. The characteristics of the surface layers of the different test specimens were examined by metallograph…
“Magnifying glass” for difficult radiocephalic arteriovenous fistulas
2012
Background: Some uremic patients suffering from diabetes, atherosclerosis or simple by absent or exhausted peripheral vascular bed require bigger effort in creating arteriovenous fistula. Although it is possible to use prosthetic graft for difficult cases, the use of native vessels falls always in the respect of patient’s quality of life. A help for these cases comes from the use of a microsurgical technique for creating vascular access. Patient and Methods: For this study we evaluated the 72 patients underwent microsurgical radiocephalic fistula comparing them to a homogeneous group of 72 patients underwent traditional surgery. The patients were followed up at 1, 2 months and 1 year. Resul…
ANTITHROMBOTIC PROPHYLAXIS IN MICROSURGERY
2016
Background. The most common complication of microsurgical reconstruction is graft failure secondary to thrombosis. It is clear that thromboprophylaxis is helpful for a successful microsurgery. However, it's also obvious that thrombosis can't be avoided in cases of poor microsurgical technique. There is no consensus regarding the use of anticoagulation therapy during and after microsurgery. The authors compared two different antithrombotic prophylaxis protocols used in the past ten years, and analyzed the effectiveness and risks of different pharmacological protocols. Materials and methods. The authors performed a retrospective review of microsurgical patients operated between 2005-2014 by t…
The Transcallosal Anterior Interfoniceal Approach: A Microsurgical Anatomy Study
2014
Objectives: A plethora of surgical strategies have been described to reach deeply lesions situated within the third ventricle, including the Rosenfeld or anterior transcallosal interfoniceal approach (TAIF). Firstly, introduced in 2001, it consists of a small callosotomy followed by the midline transseptal dissection of fornices to enter the roof of the third ventricle. The aim of this microsurgical anatomy study is to describe and show each stage of the surgical procedure, focusing on the possible trajectories to anatomic landmarks. Participants: A total of twenty adult cadaveric specimens were used in this study. Using x3 to x40 magnifications the surgical dissection was carried out in a …
