Il genere Convolvulus, appartenente alla famiglia delle Convolvulaceae, comprende circa 250 specie annuali e perenni, molte delle quali sono considerate infestanti. Tuttavia, alcune specie come C. tricolor, C. cneorum e C. sabatius vengono inserite nel settore delle piante ornamentali (Bird, 2004). Orthogonal switching of AMS axes during type-2 fold interference : Insights from integrated X-ray computed tomography, AMS and 3D petrography

We applied X-ray computed microtomography (μ-CT) in combination with anisotropy of magnetic susceptibility (AMS) analysis to study metamorphic rock fabrics in an oriented drill core sample of pyrite-pyrrhotite-quartz-mica schist. The sample is extracted from the Paleoproterozoic Martimo metasedimentary belt of northern Finland. The μ-CT resolves the spatial distribution, shape and orientation of 25,920 pyrrhotite and 153 pyrite grains localized in mm-thick metapelitic laminae. Together with microstructural analysis, the μ-CT allows us to interpret the prolate symmetry of the AMS ellipsoid and its relationship to the deformation history. Predicting stiffness and strength of birch pulp:Polylactic acid composites

This paper studies failure of birch pulp–polylactic acid composites. Stiffness and strength are calculated using the theory of short fibre composites and the results are compared to experimental data. The results differed from the experimental values by 0–6%. With less aligned fibres the short fibre theory is not feasible. The performance of the 40 wt% birch pulp – polylactic acid composite is predicted with X-ray microtomography based finite element modelling, and the results are compared with experiments. Modelling the effect of porosity on the mechanical properties of unidirectional composites. The case of thick-walled pressure vessels

International audience; The present article highlights morphological features present in composite pressure vessels. The use of X-ray microtomography provides three-dimensional information about the voids in a large thick-walled type 3 pressure vessel at the mesoscopic scale. The observations show that the porosity structure depends strongly on composite thickness and orientation. A numerical approach is proposed to model realistically the damage phenomena in pressure vessels.

Dielectric properties of myoglobin at 10 GHz by microwave cavity perturbation measurements

We report on the temperature dependence, at microwave (mw) frequency, of the imaginary part of the dielectric constant (En) in myoglobin powder samples with different hydration levels (h). The measurements have been performed by the cavity perturbation technique, in the range of temperature 80-345 K. The sample is located inside a glass capillary along the axis of a cylindrical copper cavity, resonating in the TE011 mode at 9.6 GHz, where the mw electric field has a node. By measuring the variation of the quality factor of the resonant cavity, one can extract the imaginary part of the dielectric constant. Microwave response of bulk MgB2 samples of different granularity

The microwave response of three high-density bulk MgB2 samples has been investigated in the linear and nonlinear regimes. The three samples, characterized by different mean size of grains, have been obtained by reactive infiltration of liquid Mg in powdered B preforms. The linear response has been studied by measuring the microwave surface impedance; the nonlinear response by detecting the power radiated by the sample at the second-harmonic frequency of the driving field. Our results suggest that bulk MgB2 prepared by the liquid Mg infiltration technique is particularly promising for manufacturing resonant cavities operating at microwave frequencies.
