Review of the impact of biogas digestates on the microbiological quality of agricultural soils

The global production of biogas has increased threefold during the last decade to partly replace fossil fuels, yet biogas production by anaerobic digestion generates substantial amounts of by-products named digestates. These biogas digestates can be recycled in soils to fertilize crops and to sequester carbon. However, the impact of digestates on the soil biological is actually poorly known. Here we reviewed the impact of digestates published in 56 articles reporting 23 microbial parameters. Structural analysis of the lipid A isolated from Hafnia alvei 32 and PCM 1192 lipopolysaccharides[S]

Hafnia alvei, a Gram-negative bacterium, is an opportunistic pathogen associated with mixed hospital infections, bacteremia, septicemia, and respiratory diseases. The majority of clinical symptoms of diseases caused by this bacterium have a lipopolysaccharide (LPS, endotoxin)-related origin. The lipid A structure affects the biological activity of endotoxins predominantly. Thus, the structure of H. alvei lipid A was analyzed for the first time. Fermentation profiles of Manzanilla-Aloreña cracked green table olives in different chloride salt mixtures.

NaCl plays an important role in table olive processing affecting the flavour and microbiological stability of the final product. However, consumers demand foods low in sodium, which makes necessary to decrease levels of this mineral in fruits. In this work, the effects of diverse mixtures of NaCl, CaCl2 and KCl on the fermentation profiles of cracked directly brined Manzanilla-Aloreña olives, were studied by means of response surface methodology based in a simplex lattice mixture design with constrains. Effect of pH and nitrite concentration on nitrite oxidation rate

The effect of pH and nitrite concentration on the activity of the nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) in an activated sludge reactor has been determined by means of laboratory batch experiments based on respirometric techniques. The bacterial activity was measured at different pH and at different total nitrite concentrations (TNO 2). The experimental results showed that the nitrite oxidation rate (NOR) depends on the TNO 2 concentration independently of the free nitrous acid (FNA) concentration, so FNA cannot be considered as the real substrate for NOB. Numerous herbicides target an enzyme found not only in weeds but also in « non-target organisms » such as microorganisms. This proof-of-concept study aims to use microbial gene encoding the targeted enzyme or the targeted enzyme itself as a marker for herbicide exposure in soils. The hppd gene and the encoded enzyme (HPPD; 4-hydroxyphenylpyruvate dioxygenase), targeted by B-triketone herbicides, are the subject of this study.
